Violet didn’t have to continue her act now that Hansel had left.

The pendant had dropped underneath the desk. Violet walked over to it and picked it up. She held it between her fingers, studying it condescendingly. Then, she dropped it into the trashcan beside her.
“Elara, how can I allow someone who’s already dead to get the better of me? Dead or alive, I will make sure that you’re always beneath me!” Her voice was soft, but her tone was chilly.
It gave me the shivers.
She was confident that I had died. It seemed that she must’ve had something to do with my death.
I wondered what she was talking about earlier when she said that I’d hurt Hansel. Hansel seemed furious about it. What on earth had she done behind my back?
Violet had already opened the door. I tried to float toward her and succeeded.
I followed her to Mackendale Hospital, which was located on top of a mountain. She was there to visit Josie.
In a single–bedded VIP ward, Josie was lying on the bed. Being freshly out of surgery, she was still weak. However, her pale complexion did nothing to diminish her stunning beauty. Although she was in her 40s, she showed no signs of aging and was as charming as ever.
She had a natural charm about her that easily made her endearing to men. No wonder Gaston betrayed his marriage to Mom and succumbed to temptation.
Right then, Gaston was sitting beside her bed, holding her hand. He was obviously concerned. “Jojo, it must’ve been so tough for you.”
The way he put it was as though Josie had just returned from a trip to the hottest desert on earth.
“I feel blessed that I can still be here with you.” Tears filled Josie’s eyes as she gazed affectionately at Gaston. “I was so afraid that I’d die during the surgery and could never accompany you for the rest of your life.”
“That’s nonsense.” Gaston reached out and covered her mouth. “You will be with me for the rest of our lives. I can let go of everything else in this world but you.”
Then, he took her hand and kissed it.
I hadn’t eaten in a long time, yet watching that scene made my stomach churn. To think I still had to suffer watching such a disgusting scene even though I was already a ghost.
“Dad, Mom, you still love each other so much, even after so many years. I’m thrilled to see that.” Violet expressed her joy.
“You’re both my precious darlings.” Gaston took Violet’s hand and put it together with Josie’s. “The three of us will always be together as a family.”
The three of them… Hah!.
It turned out that Mom and I were nobodies to him now.
I remembered how much he’d loved me when I was a child, and sorrow overcame me.
Love would never fade. It would only be shifted to another person. That rule applied to family affection as well. The fatherly love Gaston once had for me was now directed toward Violet.

If, someday in the future, he realized that his precious darling was actually wicked at heart, would he then feel guilty toward Mom and me?
Gaston had to leave first as he had to work, so only Violet stayed behind to accompany Josie.
Just as he left, both women dropped their fake smiles simultaneously.
In a soft, creepy tone, Violet said, “The doctor said that the surgery was a success.”
The corners of Josie’s lips turned slightly upward. She was supposed to be weak, yet her eyes showed a glint. “We wouldn’t have taken such a great risk otherwise.”
Violet smiled like a villain.
Floating mid–air, I stared at them, thinking that it all sounded too mysterious.
What surgery required Josie to take a significant risk?
