Chapter 12
My murderer stopped behind a tree not far away and answered the call.
“What… did you say?” He looked around warily before snorting dismissively. “It’s not my job to cover our tracks… Who did you say intervened?”
Right after, fear crept into his eerie eyes.
The person the other party brought up ihust’ve frightened Him so much that he even stammered. “I–Id–didn’t want to be involved in a murder. I wasn’t the one who… Alright. Give me five million dollars, and I’ll do it for you…
“Hah, you call me greedy? You should be thankful that I’m not asking for ten million dollars. I have nothing to lose, unlike you… Sure. I’ll proceed once I receive the payment.”
The other party must’ve agreed to his condition.
My murderer ended the call, lamenting, “If I knew that it would end up being so troublesome, I should’ve cut that woman up into pieces and fed her to the strays. There’d be nothing to be worried about then.”
I was terrified. Was he talking about me? Did he say he would chop me up and feed me to the strays? How evil!
Even though I was already dead, his chilling words struck terror in me.
His phone vibrated. It was a message notifying him of the receipt of funds.
Casting it a glance, he hailed a passing taxi. The sound of the door slamming shut pulled me out of the fear that was drowning me.
My murderer was getting away!
I anxiously looked back at Hansel’s car, which was only some distance away. I hastily floated back to Hansel, who was in the car, and pleaded with him. “Hansel, my murderer is here. Quick, get him—”
I was still speaking when his phone rang and cut me off. He answered it. “Hi, Mr. Castell. I’ll be right there.”
After ending the call, he instructed Jack, “Let’s go.”
Jack immediately started the car.
The taxi my murderer was in was just passing by Hansel’s car. Seeing that he was getting away, I anxiously banged on Hansel’s car window. “Hansel, quick. Follow that taxi. My murderer is in it. Please, Hansel. Lead the police to my body so that I can rest in peace…”
Crying helplessly, I couldn’t do anything but watch as Hansel’s car sped off.
When two police officers on patrol passed by, I hurried up to them. “My murderer is in that taxi. Hurry up arrest him! Please arrest him…”
and
There was no way they could hear me. Instead, they walked right through me. Falling into despair, I finally knew how hopeless it felt not to be heard.
“Don’t tear them down! Please, don’t!” Suddenly, I heard Mom’s frantic shouts.
I quickly turned to see two officials tearing down the posters.
Mom cried as she grabbed their arms. “These are photos of my daughter. I’m putting them up to find her. She’s been missing for six days!”
“You should report to the police if she’s missing. Putting up posters won’t get you anywhere. Also, it’s forbidden

to put up anything in this area.”
They shoved her aside and continued tearing down the posters.
I heard the tearing of paper as they ripped my photos into pieces. Overwhelmed by sorrow, Mom stubbornly tried to stop them. “Don’t tear them down. Don’t tear my daughter’s photos! I’m only doing this because I don’t have any other choice. Leave a few up, please…”
Trembling, Mom held onto their arms with firm grasps as she dropped to her knees.
Watching her lower herself made my heart ache.
She had once been a reputable lady, but now, she was on her knees for me. Despite that, there was nothing I could do.
And yet, those who could’ve done something were all watching from the sidelines.
