Chapter 27
Under Harper’s intense stare, Emily felt a shiver run down her spine, her confidence taking a nosedive.
“Harper, you’re gonna regret this.”
Finally, Emily spat out the words with venom and stormed off.
Leaving the company, Emily drove straight back to The Orsini Villa.
The Orsini Villa had a unique design and style all its own.
This villa was originally built by Harper’s mother, Alvina Taylor, and was part of her inheritance.
Now, however, it was occupied by Brad and his daughter, Emily.
They had taken over Alvina’s inheritance and kicked Harper out.
Emily drove into the villa’s garage and stormed inside, fuming.
“This is infuriating!”
Emily plopped down on the sofa, her face full of anger.
Brad was on the phone, glanced at her, then hung up and walked over.
“Emily, who got under your skin this time?”
Still seething, Emily replied bitterly, “Who else? That bitch.”
“Harper!” Brad said.
Whenever she used the word “bitch,” it was understood between them that she meant Harper.
This was a tacit understanding between father and daughter.
“What did she do?”
Although Harper and Emily were both Brad’s daughters, they held very different places in his heart.
Harper was stubborn and had been at odds with him since she was young.
W
Especially after Alvina’s death, Harper treated him almost like an enemy, with no trace of father–daughter affection.
Emily, on the other hand, was simple–minded, close to him, and easy to control,
Once she took over the Lavien Group, she would certainly help the Orsini Group.
As for Harper, she was nothing but a traitor to the Orsini family. In the years she had been married to Alex, she had shown no mercy. Forget about helping the Orsini Group; it was a relief she wasn’t actively working against them.
So, no matter what, Brad was determined to support Emily in joining the Lavien family, not Harper.
Emily sighed deeply, feeling a bit indignant.
“Alex is taking her to the charity gala tomorrow night. But I want to go too.”
The charity gala was a public event in Majestic City, attended by the city’s elite and business leaders.
Brad had also received an invitation to the gala.
Since Brad had taken over the Taylor Group and transformed it into the Orsini Group, it had managed to squeeze into the top 100 companies in Majestic City, even if it wasn’t on par with the Lavien Group or the Elikin Group.
Brad smiled, his tone relaxed.
“Emily, it’s okay. The Orsini Group also received an invitation. I’ll go with you.”

Emily pouted, “I don’t want that. I want to attend as a representative of the Lavien Group, not the Orsini Group.”
“Even if you can’t attend as a representative of the Lavien Group this time, we can still make her look bad. If she embarrasses herself in such a public setting, word will spread quickly, and Alex will soon abandon her.” Brad persuaded.
Hearing this, Emily’s eyes lit up.
Yes, at tomorrow’s charity gala, all she had to do was make Harper embarrass herself in front of everyone.
Alex always valued the company’s image. If he saw Harper disgracing the Lavien Group, he would be ashamed of her.
Harper would quickly become a laughingstock in high society, and people would naturally overlook Emily’s status as an illegitimate child.
This was the fastest way for her to become Alex’s wife.
Emily smiled, hugged Brad, and kissed him on the cheek.
“Dad, I love you so much!”
It was a weekend, and the charity gala was set for 8 PM at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Early on, Harper got her hair styled, makeup done, and slipped into a red evening gown, finishing the look with red diamond earrings and a matching necklace.
At that moment, she looked stunning in the mirror, like a radiant pearl, dazzling and captivating.
The stylist and assistant couldn’t help but gasp in admiration.
She was truly beautiful, with striking features, a graceful figure, and a cool elegance that made her breathtaking in every way.
“Ms. Orsini, you’ll definitely turn heads tonight, the stylist praised her.
Not just men, even women would find it hard not to take a second look.
Just then, Harper received a text from Alex.
[Downstairs.]
Harper didn’t reply but bid farewell to the stylist and headed downstairs.
The night was falling, and the city lights were just coming on.
Alex’s black Maybach was parked outside her apartment building.
Harper opened the car door and got in.
Alex glanced at her from the corner of his eye.
Compared to the white she usually wore, red suited her much better. Tonight, she was radiant, exuding a cool yet dazzling aura.
She didn’t look at him, her eyes fixed on the window.
She leaned tightly against the door, seemingly intent on keeping her distance from him.
There was a space between them, but it felt like a vast chasm.
Alex’s heart tightened inexplicably.
Was she deliberately drawing a line between them?
The driver started the car and smoothly drove towards the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Soon, the car arrived at the hotel entrance.
They got out of the car.
As usual, Alex offered his right arm.
Harper glanced at it and gently took it.
Together, they walked into the hotel lobby.
All eyes were immediately on them.
Alex was tall and handsome, dressed in a custom suit.
Harper’s red gown trailed on the floor, her cold beauty exuding a unique charm.
The room buzzed with whispers.
Indeed, they were a perfect match.
Those who knew them couldn’t help but praise them.
“Mr. Lavien, Ms. Orsini, long time no see.
Someone approached to greet them and they both responded politely.
After five years, they had grown accustomed to each other’s rhythm.
“Hello, Ms. Orsini, I’m already mesmerized by you tonight.” A playful voice interrupted.
Harper looked over and saw Caden.
He held a wine glass, the red liquid inside looking enticing.
“What should I do? My soul is about to be stolen by you.”
He half–closed his eyes, looking her up and down, a slight smile on his lips.
Alex was displeased, and he said coldly, “It seems Mr. Elikin’s soul is often stolen by others, isn’t it?”
in the business circle, many knew Caden was a notorious playboy, always flattering beautiful women with such flowery remarks.
Caden swirled the wine in his glass, downed it in one gulp, and placed the empty glass on a waiter’s tray.
The alcohol brought a slight flush to his face.
“But seeing Ms. Orsini, my eyes and heart are full of her. I even dream about her at night. I think Ms. Orsini is truly the dream girl I’ve been searching for.”
Alex’s face grew even darker
He lowered his voice, full of warning, “Caden, she’s still my wife. You’d better watch your words.”
Caden smirked, “You should be grateful she’s still your wife! Otherwise, I’d be pursuing her right now.”
His gaze was bold, his expression challenging.
With that, he winked at Harper and walked away slowly.
