Chapter 9
Crash-
The phone fell to the ground, and Tom seemed to have lost his soul. He stood there, stunned.
Fortunately, the phone was of good quality, and the impact caused the loudspeaker feature to disconnect.
Officer James’s voice came through the phone. “We did find a female body in the East Suburb reservoir. Based on her age and clothing, it’s highly likely that it’s Ms. Lawson.”
Hailey was also stunned.
Jane was dead?
Did she commit suicide?
Was she really that in love with Tom? She committed suicide on the day of his wedding?
But the next second, Hailey thought of something else—
Tom’s feelings for Jane were so deep. If Jane really died because of this, he would surely blame her. And Jane would become his forever unreachable true love!
No one could defeat or replace the power of a dead true love, no one!
But so what?
She was dead, and Tom would belong to her alone. No one would compete with her anymore.
Hailey smiled proudly, but she knew it wasn’t the right time to smile. She pinched her thigh hard, the pain immediately making her tear up.
She sobbed and covered her mouth, letting the tears fall, her voice trembling. “Jane! How could this happen? If you had something on your mind, you could have talked to me, I could have helped…”
“Shut up!” Tom roared., “Who told you that person was Jane?”
Hailey was too frightened to cry anymore. “But Officer James just said it’s very likely to be…”
“Very likely doesn’t mean it’s certain! Jane is a strong girl. She wouldn’t commit suicide.”
As he said this, Tom stood up and was about to leave.
Hailey bit her lip, almost crying, and grabbed him. “Where are you going? It’s our wedding night, and you’re going to leave me here alone?”
Tom turned back, his eyes narrowing dangerously. “Hailey, you should know your place.”
“I…”
“Who do you think you are?” He suddenly furrowed his brows, questioning, “Does Jane’s disappearance have anything to do with you?”
Hailey denied it immediately. “I’m the bride today, wearing a wedding dress all day. There were so many makeup artists and bridesmaids around me. I barely spoke to Jane.”
Tom was in a hurry to leave, leaving only one sentence. “If I find out you’re related to Jane’s disappearance, Hailey, you should know the consequences.”
