The night before the wedding 22

It wasn’t until much later that I learned the truth: Hailey had been the one to donate a kidney to save me. When the news reached me, I trembled, unable to comprehend the enormity of what I had done. I had destroyed my own happiness, piece by piece

I tried desperately to find her, but she had vanished. She changed her number and left no trace. Everything between us was over

Fear swept over me like a rising tide. Only then did I understandwithout Hailey, I was the one who couldn’t survive. The media swarmed with reports of my failed engagement, stories I fought to suppress. But every headline dragged me back to the day of our wedding, the day I abandoned her so callously. I recalled the cruel words I’d said to friends about her, each one a dagger of regret

I worked harder than ever, expanding the company as if success could absolve my sins. My only hope was that someday, amidst the endless crowd, I might see her again

And then, one day, I did

But it was too late. She stood beside another man, his gaze filled with unreserved love and admiration for her

In that moment, I understood. The radiant moon I had once held in my hands was now lighting the path for someone else.

As for me, I no longer deserved to call her mine
