Yet, I felt nothing. “Eric, I loved you once, but I no longer do,” I said softly, taking Jonah’s hand and turning to leave.
“Gina!” Eric screamed desperately and hoarsely from behind me. He knew he had lost me forever–there was no going back.
Jonah took me home. First, he carefully checked me for any injuries, then he held me and kissed me.
“Gina, I love you. No matter what you do, I’ll always love you. I’m not asking for much–just a little bit of your love. Love me the way you loved Eric, even if it’s less–I don’t care. I’ll be loyal to you. I won’t betray you. I’ll only love you.”
His voice was gentle yet firm, with a hint of pleading.
Then he pulled out a ring, the large diamond gleaming brightly. He looked at me nervously, as if waiting for my verdict.
At that moment, I knew. “That day by the lake, you overheard my conversation with Lila, didn’t you?”
He nodded.
I smiled. So that was it.
Then, I held out my hand and glanced at the ring.
Jonah’s hands shook as he slipped it onto my finger, his excitement palpable.
“Jonah, let’s take engagement photos–as many as you want,” I suggested.
