Lila looked at him scornfully. “You keep saying she loves you the most and that once she gets her memory back, she’ll come running back to you. She never lost her memory, yet she still chose to be with Jonah! Do you get it now? Gina doesn’t love you at
all.
“She knew you betrayed her, so she went along with Jonah instead. Even without you, she can still live a comfortable life!”
Lila’s face twisted with madness as she turned to Jonah, laughing. “Jonah, what’s so special about that you’d fall head over heels? She was with Eric for over two years but never loved him! And she sure as hell doesn’t love you.
“She only loves herself! She’s only with you because you’re rich. If you were broke, do you really think she’d still want you?” She was completely unhinged now, laughing maniacally. “You two are idiots for getting played by a woman who never even loved you. Hahaha! How pathetic!”
“Shut up!” Jonah snapped at Lila angrily. Then, he lowered his head, soothing me, “Let’s go home.”
His expression was the same as ever, showing no anger at the truth he’d just learned. I seemed to always be caught off guard by his reaction.
Lila let out a self–deprecating laugh. “Eric, do you dare to go up to Gina and ask her yourself? Ask her if she really lost her memory?”
Eric stood frozen in place, trembling with fear. He didn’t dare. Lila’s outburst and my silence had already revealed the truth. He didn’t want to face it. He was terrified because if it was true, it meant I never loved him.
It meant I had willingly thrown myself into Jonah’s arms.
“Don’t listen to her, Gina. Let’s go home.” Jonah wrapped his arm around my waist and led me away.
I looked at Eric, who stood there shaking, and stopped walking. “It’s true. I never lost my memory.”
Eric staggered, barely keeping his balance.

Jonah simply lowered his eyes, as if he had expected this all along. “Eric, if you had waited just one more second at the hospital, I would’ve laughed and told you it was all a joke.”
Instead, he quickly denied our relationship and said Jonah was my boyfriend.
Eric stumbled back, his voice trembling. “Gina…”
I looked away. “I actually gave you a chance. If you had just admitted you were wrong, I could have let it go. Yet, you’d rather let Jonah be my boyfriend and let me move into his home. You held and kissed Lila in front of me.
“You got her that huge custom cake and treated her so much better than you ever treated me. So, Eric, I don’t want you anymore.”
He shook his head frantically, panic written all over his face. “No, it’s not like that. Gina, I was wrong. I’m sorry, I really am! I regret it so much. It was just a moment of impulse.”
He tried to reach for me, but Jonah blocked him. “Gina, please believe me. I know I messed up. I love you. I’ve always loved you. You’re the one I want to marry.”
Tears welled up in Eric’s eyes–the kind of tears that came with the crushing realization of losing me for good, a mix of regret and panic.
His hands trembled as he reached into his pocket and pulled something out.
