I listened to the noise outside the stairwell before finally saying, Jasper, it’s over between us. You need to let it go.”

His trembling voice replied, No, Selena. It’s never over. Not for us.”

Since I didn’t plan to stay in Cloudflare for long, I opted to stay in a hotel

I had no idea how Jasper found out my room number, but when I opened the door to head out for dinner, I saw him crouched at

my doorstep

He looked up at me, like a pitiful stray dog

The sight took me back to when we were seventeen. Jasper wanted to attend the same university as me to study design, but his

father insisted he major in finance

They had a huge argument, and on a freezing winter night, Jasper ran away from home, leaving his family frantic with worry.

I eventually found him at the amusement park we used to visit

He’d looked just as pitiful then, sitting on the cold ground in nothing but a thin jacket, curled up against the biting wind

When he saw me, he gave me a bitter smile. I can’t even choose the path I want to take. I’m completely useless. Don’t laugh at

me, Selena.”

I didn’t laugh. Instead, I took him back to my house

Looking at his eyes now, filled with the same hurt, my heart faltered for a moment

Selena, you’re awake. II just wanted to see you. Don’t worry, I won’t bother you. I just want to be close to you.

Jasper fidgeted nervously, his fingers twisting the hem of his shirt

I said nothing and stepped into the elevator. He hesitated but didn’t follow

Later, I took a walk around the hotel grounds, mulling over the fact that we were still legally married

So, I contacted the lawyer from three years ago and had a new divorce agreement drawn up

When I returned to the hotel, Jasper was gone
