Shawn’s eyes were bloodshot as he roared at Joseph, “That woman standing next to you slept with us brothers for over a decade!
She’s used and ruined! And now the golden boy of the Blackwell family is marrying a used good? What a joke!”
I turned to Joseph nervously and asked softly, “Do you believe him?
He was quiet for a moment before pulling me into his arms. “I’m only afraid that you’ll be hurt.”
Then, with a calm wave, he signaled the bodyguards to take care of the Langston brothers.
Fists slammed into their guts, and they collapsed to the ground, howling for mercy.
They could only act like tyrants in front of a sickly woman like me.
In comparison, Joseph, who was standing beside me, held power over all of Nautilis, yet he remained humble and respectful, never needing to assert dominance over the weak to feel important.
He lightly rested his arm around my waist as we walked out.
He lowered his head and asked gently, “Did you finish the last round of medicine? I can have the doctor prepare another
prescription.”
Mooked up in surprise. “The medicine… it was from you?”
Joseph smiled shyly. Even his neck was flushing bright red.
That warm light, long absent from my heart, slipped quietly back in.
It was gentle and soothing.
The Langston brothers ended up in the hospital. But under pressure from the Blackwell family, they didn’t dare say anything
publicly.
Instead, they spread ugly rumors–claiming I had used underhanded means to climb into Joseph’s bed.
But Mr. Langston Senior quickly stepped in, took down the gossip, and even exiled Queenie from Nautilis.
I thought my life would finally settle into peace.
To my surprise, Queenie suddenly showed up at the makeup room door on my wedding day.
With a thud, she dropped to her knees before me.
“Yvonne, please, show mercy. You know my family is poor, and my mom is sick. I’m begging you! You’re rich now. Please don’t lower yourself to my level and have mercy on us poor folks!”
Through her sobs, I pieced together the rest. After she was chased out of Nautilis, the Langston brothers supported her for a
while.
