Chapter 28
“What do you mean the market is crashing? I don’t care! It’s your incompetence!”
“A rebound tomorrow? You want to buy more? And what if it keeps dropping?”
“Fine… I’ll give you one last chance.”
As Adora walked past, she caught snippets of Theodore’s conversation and quickly pieced together what was happening.
So, the market crash had come out of nowhere.
She glanced at her father, his face red with anger, veins bulging at his neck as he slammed his phone onto the table.
She had already reached the doorway when she suddenly paused.
Considering that Theodore had graciously decided not to throw her out today, Adora figured she might as well return the favor.
She casually remarked with a smile, “Friendly advice–don’t buy more today. Cut your losses and sell while you still can.”
Theodore froze and turned to look at her, his expression a mix of confusion and irritation. “Are you talking to me?”
He clearly hadn’t expected her to have an opinion on stocks.
Adora chuckled. “Unless you think I’m talking to a ghost?”
Frustrated and irritable, Theodore had no patience for her sarcasm.
His trader just informed him that today’s estimated loss was around six million dollars, wiping out over a month’s worth of
gains.
Hearing his daughter chime in with unsolicited advice only fueled his frustration.
“Get lost! What the hell do you know? Just don’t piss me off any more than I already am!”
“Well, that was a waste of kindness,” Adora thought and simply laughed it off before leaving.
Once she got into the taxi, she pulled out her phone and checked the stock market.
The index had already plunged 100 points.
And judging by the trend, panic was setting in.
The decline wasn’t over yet.
She opened the Market Gods chat and sent a message, checking in on how everyone else was handling the drop.
Elliot replied, “I sold off my shares as soon as the market opened. Thankfully, I managed to keep all my profits from the past few
months.”

Mason responded, “I wasn’t so lucky. Not only did I not sell, but I even bought more at the dip.”
Miles sent a laughing emoji. “Did you not see Madame Lee’s message this morning? She sold yesterday. And here you are trying to buy the dip. You just caught yourself halfway up the mountain.”
Mason defended himself. “Well, White–Coat said he’d done his research and that the market wouldn’t fall further. I thought I’d
take a gamble.”
Madame Lee let out a dramatic sigh. “Some people are determined to become the market’s fresh harvest. Nothing I say can stop
them.”
Adora scrolled through the chat, not paying much attention to their conversation.
In truth, she had logged in to see if White–Coat Deity had said anything.
But even after several minutes, he still hadn’t appeared.
He was probably too busy with work to check his phone.
“Why do I even care if he lost money? If he didn’t listen to the warning and ended up losing big, that’s on him. Why am I worrying
about this?” Adora thought.
Realizing she had actually been concerned about White–Coat Deity’s losses, Adora snapped back to reality and muttered to
herself, “Ridiculous.”
After meeting up with Laura, the two headed straight to a home furnishing store.
The maid’s quarters were too small, and Adora struggled to find furniture that would actually fit.
She walked through the store, eyeing different wardrobes and desks, but nothing felt quite right.
Laura watched her, puzzled. “Are you really planning to stay in the maid’s quarters long–term? That space is tiny. If you get a
wardrobe and a desk, there won’t even be room to walk.”
Adora let out a self–deprecating laugh. “I nearly lost the maid’s quarters today. Do you think I have the luxury of dreaming about a bigger room?”
Laura’s expression darkened. “What do you mean?”
Adora recounted everything that happened the night before and that morning.
By the time she finished, Laura was fuming. “That’s insane! You’re their real daughter! How can your parents not believe you but
blindly trust a foster child’s crocodile tears?”
Adora shrugged. “What can I do? I don’t have proof.”
Laura’s anger didn’t subside. “So, what’s your plan? Are you just going to let them walk all over you?”
Adora thought for a moment before replying calmly, “It’s been three years. Those traffickers could be anywhere by now. They

might’ve even been arrested already. Finding a witness won’t be easy.”
Laura’s face fell. “Then… what are you going to do?”
A sly smile played on Adora’s lips. “There are other ways. If I can’t find proof, I’ll just make Ruby confess herself.“
