Chapter 18
Laura kept nodding in apology before grabbing Adora and hurrying away.
A few tables away, Lewis, the very man who had been harassing Laura, had been watching the whole scene.
Seeing Laura arrive but leave without meeting him, he immediately got up and rushed after her.
“Laura Shaw, what the hell is this? You brought someone here just to curse me out?” He grabbed her arm roughly, glaring at her
with anger.
But Laura, now emboldened by Adora’s support and no longer afraid of losing her mom’s medical care, refused to back down.
She snapped back without hesitation, “I don’t need anyone to do it for me. I can curse you out just fine on my own! “Listen up, Lewis Burns! I don’t like you. You make me sick. I will never marry you! Get lost as far away as possible!”
She had been holding back for so long, and today, she finally got to say it all.
Lewis‘ face turned an ugly shade of purple, his finger jabbing toward her as he growled, “You’ll regret this! Just wait–I’ll tell your father!”
“Go ahead! I have nothing to do with the Shaw family anymore, so complain all you want!” She spat on the ground in disgust before striding away without looking back.
Back in the car, Adora let out a frustrated sigh.
“It’s my fault. I should’ve asked first. I went after the wrong guy.”
Laura burst into laughter and waved it off.
“No big deal. That Mr. Walker is infamous for being cold and antisocial. Don’t take it to heart. But seriously, why would you even think I had anything to do with him?
“My dad wishes that were the case, but let’s be real, the Shaw family isn’t even in the same league.”
Adora scoffed in disdain. “He’s not good enough for you.”
“No, no, you’ve got it backward. He’s just a little cold and distant, but his background is top–tier, his abilities are outstanding,
and he’s tall, handsome, and well–mannered.
“If anything, I’m the one who isn’t good enough for him.”
Adora shook her head repeatedly. “Forget it. Let’s just go have our own meal.”
“Alright, my treat this time–to comfort your wounded little heart,” Laura teased with a grin.

Chapter 18
Inside the restaurant, Nathan watched the two girls leave, clicking his tongue in amusement.
Turning back, he noticed Louis still gazing out the window.
With a smirk, he teased, “What’s this? A fight leading to a spark of interest?”
Louis, ever sharp–tongued, shot back, “Say one more word, and I’ll make sure you lose your voice permanently.”
Nathan chuckled, unfazed.
“It’s just funny. I’ve never seen you get so worked up over a woman before. Makes me think you might actually be interested.
“But then again, I heard Adora was trafficked for three years, had a child with her ‘buyer,‘ and only got released when she was on the verge of death…”
He trailed off, shaking his head. “If that’s true, it’s probably best if you’re not interested…”
Louis replied flatly, “She doesn’t have HIV.”
Nathan raised a brow. “She doesn’t? Then why did the Matthews family throw her out? I even heard they made her live in a doghouse when they reluctantly took her back.”
Louis shot him an exasperated look. “Why are you asking me? How the hell would I know?”
“I just pity her.”
“You shouldn’t be. People like her always have their own faults.” Louis‘ tone was detached and indifferent.
After crossing paths with Adora a few times, he had never met someone so stubborn, self–righteous, and prone to making
baseless accusations.
She was like a porcupine–impossible to get close to.
No wonder her own family didn’t want her.
Nathan frowned at his harsh words.
“That’s a little too much, don’t you think? She’s been through hell, and you have no sympathy at
all?”
