The police officers eyed Samantha with suspicion.
They were probably confused. I had been dead for so long, and Samantha had personally identified my body. Yet, she still refused
to acknowledge that I was dead.
The officer reiterated once more, “Ms. Langley, Mr. Henderson died in a gun–related incident at Sylvoria Prison a week ago.”
They glanced at Isaac. “You were the one who accompanied Ms. Langley to view Mr. Henderson’s body that day.”
That day, Samantha was clinging to Isaac outside the morgue. Her actions shocked many in the office, and everyone who saw
them vividly remembered them.
The officer looked at Samantha helplessly. “Ms. Langley, the office has called you several times, urging you to sign the
authorization for release of body and complete the necessary procedures. Why have you been ignoring our calls?
“According to the regulations, you are the first in line to authorize the release of Mr. Henderson’s body. If you refuse, we’ll
contact his immediate family to take it. However, if that happens, you might lose the inheritance Mr. Henderson had designated
for you.”
Isaac looked away awkwardly, unable to speak under the police’s watchful eyes.
Samantha, however, seemed to collapse from exhaustion. She clutched her throat as she struggled to breathe. Her long–ignored
allergic rhinitis flared up.
She staggered and fell to the ground. “No way!”
Suddenly, she glared at Isaac and roared, “Is what they said true? Joziah is really dead! You knew the truth all along! Why did you let me live in this misunderstanding? Why didn’t you tell me?”
Her face twisted with rage, and her eyes turned red.
“Please calm down, Ms. Langley!” The police stepped forward to try and restrain her.
But Samantha screamed even louder. She threw a cup off the table, aiming it at the officers. She became completely irrational when she lost control.
