the hell out of my company!” 1
In the end, Tyler transferred 120 thousand dollars to my account. His expression was stormy. He had borrowed the money from
his boss.
“Happy now? You just had to ruin my deal, is this what you wanted?” he spat.
I glanced at my phone and was satisfied with the new balance in my account. Then, raising my chin, I gestured toward the divorce
papers. “Sign it.”
Tyler still thought I was just throwing a tantrum.

He rolled his eyes in frustration. “I already gave you the money. What more do you want? Can’t we just end things peacefully?”
Finally, his temper snapped. He slammed his palm against the desk.
“Lisa, enough! I’ve told you a thousand times, nothing happened between me and Regina. How many times do I have to say it before you believe me?”
He still refused to see himself as the one who had betrayed our marriage.
I cut him off before he could keep going. “No need to explain. I wasn’t planning on listening to your excuses anyway.”
Maybe my words hit a nerve because suddenly, his anger faltered.
“Let’s just go home, okay? We’ll talk there, I’ll explain, I’ll apologize. Whatever you want, I’ll do it. Is that good enough?”
“Whatever I want?”
My eyes were sharp and filled with quiet disdain. “Then how about this: kick Regina out of my house. Can you do that?”
Tyler opened his mouth, but no words came out. He had lost.
Still, he refused to sign the divorce papers.
“Then we’ll go through the courts.” I didn’t even look at him as I turned to leave.
As he watched my retreating figure, something seemed to click in his head. For the first time, it really hit him that I wasn’t just ́threatening him. I was done.
The anger in his chest vanished, leaving behind a strange emptiness. And for the first time, he wasn’t sure how to describe what
he was feeling.
