Chapter 14
Tessa truly hated Ethan. She hated Charlotte, too. But most of all, she hated herself for not seeing Ethan’s
that she could’ve left him earlier.
She decided that she wouldn’t be foolish again from then on.

“How pathetic,” Tessa mocked herself. “I didn’t think that you’d see me like this. This is all on me. I was blind to fall for the
wrong person. And this… this is the ending I deserve.”
A sharp pain pierced through her chest when she thought about the corneas.
“Don’t say that.” Zachary’s firm voice sounded, and Tessa felt her hand being gently held. “This isn’t your fault. Don’t blame yourself. It’s Ethan’s fault. He didn’t deserve your love, He never did. From now on, love yourself. Don’t ever let him hurt you again.”
His voice was soft and gentle. It made her nose sting.
“I won’t,” Tessa replied hoarsely, “I’ll take care of myself.”
Zachary watched her hold it all in and thought that she might need a space,to let it out. So, he said, “You must be starving. Wait here. I’ll get you something from the cafeteria.”
Then, he let go of her hand and stepped out of the ward.
Meanwhile, Charlotte’s surgery had come to an end.
The doctor emerged from the operating room, pulled down his mask, and said, “Mr. Ziegler, the surgery was a success. She should regain her sight in about a week.”
“That’s great.” Ethan was visibly relieved.
Charlotte, still under anesthesia, was wheeled into a VIP ward.
While Ethan took in her bandaged eyes, Tessa’s image kept flashing in his mind. He remembered what she’d said that seeing
him made her sick.
The calm he had just regained vanished, replaced by an unbearable agitation. He wanted badly to drag Tessa back and teach her a lesson. If anything, she was more disgusting than him.
The tension around Ethan grew heavy. Finally, he turned on his heel and stormed out of the ward.
He dialed Tessa’s number, but it wouldn’t connect. He called the house next, and their butler, Jaxon Smith, told him that she hadn’t returned.
Then it hit him–Tessa hadn’t been going home for a while. She’d been staying at Rosalie’s place.

Ethan strode toward the elevator, and as the doors opened, he saw Rosalie inside.
Rosalie had rushed over after hearing about the surgery, but she still arrived too late. The moment she saw Ethan, she slapped him hard across the face.
“You scumbag! Heartless bastard! I finally get to catch you here!”
Ethan hadn’t expected the slap, and his face twisted in anger. “Are you insane?”
“That’s right. I am insane!” Rosalie trembled with rage as she yelled, “You may not love Tessa, but she’s still your wife. How could you be so cruel?
“Tess must’ve been blind to love you! If you hate her that much, why not just divorce her and let her go? Why keep torturing her? Plenty of men would cherish her, so stop clinging to her!”
Those words pushed Ethan over the edge. He glared at Rosalie and demanded, “Where’s Tessa?”
“You’re asking me?” Rosalie sneered. “I should be asking you! Tessa was supposed to be in surgery. Where the hell did you take her, Ethan? How could you do that to your wife?”
Thinking of Tessa, Rosalie didn’t want to argue with him any longer. She turned to leave, but Ethan blocked her path and said coldly, “I’ll ask you one more time. Where the hell is Tessa?”
“You could ask me a hundred times, and I still wouldn’t know!” Rosalie snapped. “She’s your wife. Why are you asking me? Do you think acting like you care now is going to change anything? Screw off!”
She shoved past him and left.
There was no way she’d let that piece of garbage anywhere near Tessa again.
When Rosalie finally reached the ward, she found Tessa sitting quietly by the bed. Her once bright eyes were dull and lifeless now. Distressed, Rosalie approached the bed.
