“Sorry for disturbing you,” Tessa said.
Taking advantage of the moment when Elyse and Aaron were lost in thought, she quietly placed a bank card at the foot of the bed, then turned and left.
Without Callum’s corneas, where else could she find a suitable match? Was there no hope left for her eyes?
After leaving the ward, Tessa felt lost, her mind reeling with what to do next. She wandered aimlessly until she suddenly walked straight into someone’s chest.
She looked up and saw a familiar face. “Zachary,
w are you?”
Zachary looked at her with a look full of concern. He raised his arm slightly, as if he wanted to touch her head, but then stopped himself.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” His voice was husky and thick with unspoken emotions.
Tessa froze, momentarily confused. “Tell you what?”
“Your eyes…” Zachary began to say but stopped halfway. He looked at her, his expression complicated. “If you need anything, I can help.”
Tessa turned her head, not wanting to see the pity in his eyes. She shook her head. “Forget it. I don’t want to hold someone back. from their chance at survival just because of my eyes.”
“What do you mean?”
Tessa explained the situation with Elyse needing the expert surgical team to save Aaron’s life and gave a bitter smile. “If I were still the heiress to the Langford family, maybe I could leverage my connections, but now… Forget it.”
“If you’re talking about Myles Atkinson’s medical team, I might be able to help!”
At 6:00 pm, Charlotte, who was looking elegant and put together, arrived outside Ethan’s office with a lunch box in hand.
The office door was open, and Leon was giving Ethan a report inside. “Mr. Ziegler, we just got a call from the donor’s family. They’ve backed out and no longer want to donate the corneas to Ms. Simmons.”
When Charlotte heard that the donor had backed out, she couldn’t hold back and rushed inside. “Why?”
Realizing her voice was sharper than intended, she immediately clenched her palm and softened her expression.
“Didn’t we already agree on this? Why the sudden change of heart? Are they trying to raise the price?”
Leon glanced at Ethan, noticing the frustration and darkness his co-

Ethan’s mood had been unstable lately, and the pressure was mounting on everyone working with him. Every word spoken to him
had to be carefully considered
Leon hesitated before answering, “They didn’t say anything, but their stance is firm.”
“What should we do, Ethan?” Charlotte immediately clung to Ethan’s sleeve pitifully. “Am I really going to go blind and spend
the rest of my life in darkness?”
Ethan’s face was stormy.
What had happened to make a dying person suddenly so determined to give up the hope of life? He figured that someone must have given them another kind of hope!
He wondered who it was. His frustration spiked as he tugged at his tie. It seemed that nothing was going his way lately.
Tessa had blocked him from contacting her anyway, seemingly determined to divorce him. He couldn’t even reach her for a
conversation.
To make things worse, David occasionally messaged him, asking when he’d complete the divorce process to sever ties with Tessa. He said that he was eager to replace him with a new granddaughter.
And now, even the donation that had been finalized was facing issues. He said, “Get me the donor’s family’s details. I’ll contact them myself.”
“Sure.” Leon immediately sent the information to Ethan.
When Ethan opened the file, Charlotte immediately recognized the familiar face. She couldn’t believe who it was.
She remembered what had happened at the banquet the previous night. Her nails dug into her palm as hate flashed in her eyes.
“Ethan, it’s Ms. Langford. It has to be her,” Charlotte said. Her eyes turned red, looking as though she had suffered a great injustice.
“Last night at a banquet, I saw Ms. Langford being bullied by Ms. Scott. I stood up for her, but she holds a strong grudge against me because of that incident at the amusement park. She publicly called me a mistress, said I was ruining your marriage, and humiliated me in front of everyone.
“This woman was a waitress at the banquet. I’m not sure how Ms. Langford found out she was the mother of f my cornea donor, but I saw her going after her.
“But then she had a confrontation with Ms. Scott and got pushed into the pool. A man saved her. Oh, I took a photo of it. You should see this, Ethan.”
Charlotte unlocked her phone, found the photo she had taken then, and handed it to Ethan.
She was now very relieved that she had overheard someone saying that Tessa had chased after the waitress when she returned to the banquet hall.

At that time, she was worried that Tessa might go to Ethan and accuse her of bullying. So she wanted to find her and set things
straight.
However, when she arrived, she saw Tessa being rescued from the pool by a man. They chatted happily, and the man even took
her home.
Charlotte had secretly taken several photos at the time. She had originally planned to use them to accuse Tessa of being a tramp when the right moment came. But unexpectedly, they ended up being useful in that situation. It was a case of luck by chance.
Ethan immediately recognized the man in the photo as Zachary. His face froze with a cold fury. He didn’t know that Tessa and Zachary knew each other. Judging from how they looked at each other, it seemed like they’d known each other for a long time.
It seemed that Tessa had actually aligned herself with Zachary to go against him. Ethan couldn’t believe the situation he was in.
The next morning, Tessa got dressed and prepared to head to the hospital for her surgery.
Yesterday, Zachary had worked things out for her. Elyse and Aaron had agreed that they would remove Callum’s life support that
day and donate the corneas to Tessa.
Since leaving the hospital yesterday, Tessa had felt an overwhelming sense of joy. But when she stepped out of the elevator and saw Ethan standing in the lobby of her apartment, her heart sank
“What are you doing here?” Tessa frowned, her gaze icy.
When she saw him aga
again, she realized that she felt unusually calm. Her excitement and joy were gone. It turned out that love could be worn away when disappointment accumulated enough.
Ethan’s expression was just as cold. His eyes were dark with anger. “What? I shouldn’t have come so you could secretly meet with
another man?”
His baseless accusation left Tessa speechless. She said, “You’re crazy.” She wondered if he thought that everyone was as morally
bankrupt as he was.
Tessa had no intention of letting him ruin her mood as she was about to embrace a fresh start. She turned to walk around him, but he grabbed her wrist. His hold was so tight that Tessa felt her wrist might break.
“What the hell is your problem, Ethan?” Tessa snapped, trying to break free.
Ethan stared at her, his grip unrelenting. “Why are you all dressed up? Are you going on a date with
Zachary?”
