CHAPTER 15

Celeste’s POV

I stepped out of my car, my heels clicking against the pavement as I folded my arms and leveled Damien with a cold stare

Didn’t you want the divorce first? My voice remained even, but the fury blazed just beneath the surface. You even announced

it in front of everyone at the party. So why are you acting so hypocritical now?”

His expression faltered, his lips parting slightly like he hadn’t expected those words. His usual arrogance was missing, replaced

with somethingdarker. Even sadder

He definitely looked conflicted

For a moment, I thought he might actually say something honest. Something real. But then, his features hardened, and the mask

slid right back into place

Are you just looking for an excuse to get rid of me faster? His voice was sharp, taunting. So you can go and live with your group of lovers?”

I let out a humorless laugh, shaking my head. Right. Because that’s exactly what I did while you were busy parading around with

your spare wife.”

His jaw tensed, and a fleeting shadow passed through his eyes

And then, right on cue

Genevieve sauntered over, slipping her arm through Damien’s without hesitation, pressing herself into his side like she belonged

there

Oh, there you are, Damien! I’ve been looking everywhere for you.She looked up at him, touching his cheek, then flashing me a saccharine smile. You left so suddenlyI was worried.”

I stiffened

Damien frowned slightly but didn’t push her away

Oh, Celeste, she purred, her voice full of false concern. You were discharged from the mental institution without notifying us. How shocking

She blinked to me, asked with an innocent tone. Tell us, how did you get out? Did your lover help you?”

Her nails traced lazy circles on Damien’s arm, her smirk widening as she watched me

My fingers curled into fists

I refused to let her see how much that stung

Genevieve stepped forward, reaching for my hand as if we were old friends. Her perfectly manicured fingers stretched toward me, her expression full of mock sympathy

Celeste, dear, she cooed, tilting her head. I know this must be hard for you, but some things are just meant to be.She sighed dramatically. You and Damiendidn’t you keep saying that your marriage was a mistake? Maybe that drove you to=”

I sidestepped her, my blood boiling. But she was quicktoo quick. Before I could pull away completely, she tried again, reaching for me with an exaggerated pout

Come now, let’s not be childish, she said sweetly. You’ve already lost everything. There’s no need to make this uglier than it

already is.”

That was it

Without hesitation, I grabbed her wristhard

Genevieve gasped, her eyes widening in shock

Don’t,I said, my voice low and cold, ever touch me again”

Her smirk faltered, but she quickly recovered, tugging at her wrist. I didn’t let go

I’m not the same Celeste you walked all over before,I continued, tightening my grip just enough to make her flinch. You want

to provoke me? Keep pushing, Genevieve. See what happens.”

Let go of me,she hissed, trying to yank herself free

I leaned in, my voice barely above a whisper. I tolerated you for too long. That ends now.”

A muscle in Damien’s jaw twitched as he took a step forward, but I didn’t look at him. My gaze stayed locked onto Genevieve’s

watching as uncertainty filled her eyes

For the first time, she wasn’t in control

With one last warning squeeze, I finally released her

She stumbled back, quickly masking her unease with a sharp laugh. My, my,she mused, rubbing her wrist. Looks like the little madwoman finally grew claws. I don’t think you should have been let out of that asylum.”

I scoffed, the sound hollow and unimpressed. Genevieve’s words were meant to provoke me, to bait me into reacting. But

wouldn’t give her the satisfaction

Without sparing heror Damien a second glance, I turned on my heel and walked straight to my car. Once I got in, I turned to

Damien one last time

Sign the divorce,I said flatly, my voice carrying no emotion. The sooner, the better.”

I didn’t wait for a response. I didn’t even check to see his reaction

Sliding into the driver’s seat, I gripped the wheel tightly. The moment the engine roared to life, I pressed my foot against the

accelerator and sped off, leaving them both behind

In the rearview mirror, I saw Damien turn to Genevieve, his brows furrowed as she clung to him dramatically, His hand rested on

her back, soothing her as if she were the one who had just been humiliated

A sharp pain shot through my chest, but I forced myself to laugh bitterly

You’re still heartbroken over him

Pathetic

Texhaled through my nose and forced my gaze forward

I wasn’t going to look back. Not anymore
