Chapter 49 Quarrel
Everyone noticed how Ethan and the other three were sitting close to Victoria, and each had their own thoughts.
There had been rumors at Nexus College that Victoria was a social butterfly, and it seemed like they might be true.
Cecil felt humiliated. He couldn’t mess with Elise, but he wasn’t scared of Victoria.
Ella had filled him in on Victoria s background. She was just a take heiress who got kicked out of her family, with no support. Even if Eric was messing around with her, he wouldn’t respect her much.
Cecil chugged a pint of beer, stood up with his glass, and called his buddies over for a toast.
Victoria was munching on a skewer when she noticed a shadow looming over her.
Cecil took the lead and said, “We’re here to toast the new members.
The newcomers all stood up and politely drank a glass.
But Cecil didn’t leave. He wedged himself between Victoria and Mira, grinning mischievously. “We toasted you, shouldn’t you each
toast us back?”
The other guys chimed in, “Yeah, you’re so pretty, you must be able to hold your liquor well.”
Victoria frowned, “Is this a rule in the Snooker Club?”
“Don’t be so serious. Do you only drink with Eric and not with us? Are you looking down on us? Cecil said with a cheeky smile, trying to put his hand on Victoria’s shoulder, showing no respect for her,
Victoria dodged to the side.
Mira was slower to react and got her shoulder grabbed. Cecil’s breath reeked of alcohol, making her close her eyes and struggle. “Let go of me!”
Seeing Mira couldn’t break free, Victoria slapped Cecil hard, making his head tilt and his hand loosen.
Mira escaped and hid behind Victoria.

Ethan suddenly stood up, grabbed his wrist, and threw him aside. “Show some respect.”
Cecil stumbled back a few steps.
Seeing it was Ethan who intervened, he swallowed his curse and turd to complain to Eric, “Eric, I just asked the newcomers to

drink, and she slapped me. Stice when did our club become so unreasonable?
Not many people saw him being disrespectful and harassing the gith.
But everyone saw Victoria slap Cecil, making it seem like she was in the wrong.
Eric’s expression was indifferent, “You’re drunk and acting crazy.”
Cecil was too stunned to speak. After a moment, he stammered, “No Eric, it’s a tradition for newcomers to toast.”
Nick, twirling his glass, shot back, Do we also have a tradition of sexually harassing female members? I must’ve missed that memo,”
Everyone was taken aback. In the past, when they joked around during meals, Eric never stepped in.
Even when he brought his girlfriends, they would toast, and Eric never stopped them. So, they didn’t think much of Victoria, despite the rumors about her and Eric.
But this time, Eric’s attitude was totally different.
Cecil’s face went pale, and he mumbled an apology.
Ethan tapped the table with a finger, “Apologize sincerely,”
Cecil grabbed the beer bottles on the table and chugged the remaining half a case, his face turning red as he burped.
Ethan nodded and let him go.
Victoria
glanced at Ethan. This was the third time he had stood up for her.
Ethan’s eyes locked onto hers, intense and unwavering, as if his gaze could pull her in.
Victoria blinked and looked away.
During the meal, Victoria observed the owner and his wife of Smokestack Grill & Barbecue, feeling that neither seemed like Shadow.
Although she hadn’t seen Shadow in her previous li
life, a top hackerad a different aura from ordinary people, and Victoria felt she could recognize it if she saw it.
She asked the owner’s wife and learned there was a part–time chef in the restaurant. The owner handled the barbecue, while the chef cooked other dishes.
She ordered a few dishes cooked by the part–time chef, and they turned out to be surprisingly delicious.
Victoria guessed that this part–time chef might be Shadow. She didn’t expect him to have such a wide range of skills.
At the end of the gathering. Victoria used the leftover bones to arrange an “X” on the plate. Whether Shadow would notice it depended on luck.
When the owner’s wife was cleaning the table, she noticed the pattern and joked to her husband, “These students are quite interesting, arranging the bones into such a neat X.
Her voice was loud, and Ryan in the kitchen heard it.
Without taking off his apron, Ryan rushed to the front and saw the X on the plate, instantly connecting II to his recent opponent who had been toying with him.
