Chapter 21
Emily’s face was all scrunched up, tears threatening to spill over.
“Why did you set it up like this? Do you think I’m not doing a good job? I can change.”
Her voice was barely a whisper, her head hanging low, like a kid who got caught doing something wrong.
Alex’s heart softened, his expression easing up.
Emily was still young and naturally gentle, making any guy want to protect her.
She sniffled, on the verge of tears. “I know I’m not as good as Harper, but I’m trying hard to learn. I want to help you, I want to stand by your side like Harper does.”
She played the victim card, step by step, seeking sympathy and favor.
Alex looked at her, his tone much gentler. “Emily, I had Harper come over to help you so you wouldn’t be too overwhelmed. Harper’s been with the company longer; feel free to reach out to her if you have any questions.”
Emily was still green, and it wasn’t uncommon for newbies to get picked on. With Harper around, it would be different. The staff respected Harper and wouldn’t dare bully Emily.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Alex glanced at her, signaling her to wipe her tears before calling out, “Come in.”
It was Harper who walked in.
She had finished dealing with a client and came back to report to Alex.
“Mr. Lavien, the issue with GreatTech Company has been resolved. It was due to their technicians‘ improper operation, not our equipment. I’ve already sent our tech team over to guide them personally, so there shouldn’t be any more problems.”
Her gaze was steady, her tone calm, not even glancing at Emily.
Alex nodded slightly.
Mr. Lavien, is there anything else?” Harper was ready to walk out.
“You’ll be working here from now on, no need to go out.”
His voice was cold, with little emotion.
Harper was momentarily stunned.
What did he mean by that?
Only then did she glance at her desk.
Emily pouted. “Harper, Alex means that I’m new here and not familiar with many things, so he wants you to teach me and help me get up to speed with the company’s business.”
So that’s what it was.
Harper sneered inwardly.
At this moment, Emily stood up, took a lunchbox from her bag, and walked over to Alex.
“Alex, I made this chicken soup early this morning. Try it.”
She poured a bowl of soup, blew on it gently, tasted it to check the temperature, and then fed it to Alex.
She carefully held the spoon, bringing it to Alex’s lips.
“Alex, open your mouth.”

Chapter 21
Harper felt a wave of nausea.
Was he making her work here just to watch them being affectionate?
Such a show!
Alex slightly opened his mouth, letting her feed him the soup.
Emily’s eyes sparkled, her eyebrows raised, looking at him expectantly.
“Alex, how does it taste?”
Alex nodded slightly, but his tone was flat. “In the future, let someone else do this. You have a below–average health condition, and I don’t want you to be exhausted.”
Emily, feeling proud, asked boastfully, “Alex, are you worried about me?”
Alex didn’t answer, but his silence was already an answer.
Harper felt a chill in her heart.
She had been with him for five years, cooked countless meals, made countless soups, yet never heard a word of concern from him. It was as if everything she did for him was taken for granted.
Emily was delicate. Harper, on the other hand, was like a servant, naturally expected to cook.
For someone who didn’t love you, even if you cook for him a million times, it meant nothing. He would never care.
Harper didn’t bother to watch their little show any longer. She turned and sat at her desk, burying herself in work.
She worked with such focus, completely ignoring the presence of others in the office.
After a while, Emily suddenly spoke up. “Harper, can you make a copy of this document?”
Was she giving orders?
Harper acted as if she hadn’t heard, continuing to type on her keyboard.
Emily put down the bowl, looking pitiful.
“Alex, you just said to copy this document, but when I told Harper, she ignored me.”
She was implying that Alex had given the order, but Harper wasn’t following it.
Alex’s tone turned cold as he directly ordered, “Harper, didn’t you hear what Emily said?”
Harper almost laughed in anger.
“I heard very clearly. Mr. Lavien assigned it to Emily, didn’t he? What does it have to do with me?”
Her eyebrows raised slightly, her gaze cold.
“She’s not available right now. You used to do these things often.”
Alex’s tone was stern, leaving no room for argument.
Harper glanced at Emily.
She was sitting comfortably on the sofa opposite Alex, looking smug and relaxed.
Emily seemed to be telling Harper that she had Alex’s support, so what could Harper do?
Harper sneered.
She had indeed often done such tasks before, running around for him without a word of complaint.
So, she stood up, and as she was about to leave, she suddenly turned back, her eyes fixed on Alex, and asked firmly, “Mr. Lavien, may I ask, is copying a document more important, or is reviewing a contract worth millions of dollars more important?”

Alex was taken aback.
Her tone was steady. “If there’s a problem with the contract, the company could lose millions of dollars.”
She lowered her eyes, picking up the contract on the desk, examining it closely. “Let me see, the reviewer is Emily Orsini.”
Emily couldn’t sit still. She got up, ran over, and snatched the contract, retorting, “I signed this contract, but I already checked it, and there’s no problem.”
Harper sneered, “Our company purchases precision parts from Luffy Manufacturer for our smart robots. This contract only specifies the part model and quantity but doesn’t make it clear that they are precision parts.”
“Luffy Manufacturer has both precision and standard versions of these parts, and the prices differ significantly. According to this contract, if the manufacturer provides us with the standard version, Emily, would you still accept it?”
She spoke with professionalism and logic, leaving Emily speechless.
Emily was stunned for a while before turning to Alex. “Alex, I’ve only been with the company for a few days. How could I know these things? But if Harper knew, why didn’t she remind me? How would it benefit Harper if the company lost money?”
Harper’s lips curled into a smile, once again laughing in anger.
“Emily, if you don’t know, you should learn the details before signing the contract. Since you signed the contract, you should understand that if there’s a problem, you bear all the responsibility.”
Emily looked even more aggrieved. “Alex, why does Harper have to target me?”
