Chapter 9
Rebecca’s POV
I also heard what happened after Jonah’s mating ceremony.
I heard that Elara was left behind, howling in place, with no one showing her any sympathy.
In that once–pristine white wedding dress, she looked like nothing more than a pathetic joke.
As for the wound Jonah had given me, the medical report from the hospital showed it wasn’t even classified as a minor injury.
The doctor said I was lucky I hadn’t damaged any tendons or bones.
If it had been even slightly off, my right hand would have been useless.
But I refused to let it slide. Even if it only meant Jonal spending a few days behind bars, I wanted justice.
He didn’t have to love me, and he didn’t have to let me become his Luna, but he shouldn’t have treated me this way.
I wasn’t the only one who felt this way–Evan felt the same.
So when Jonah finally emerged from the werewolf detention center after fifteen days, he was a mess–bruised, battered, and broken.
Evan said Jonah had made enemies in there and was taught a harsh lesson.
Jonah’s face twisted with barely contained fury seeing Evan’s possessive embrace around me.
But when he turned to me, his eyes softened with a sickening, fake tenderness that made my stomach churn.
“Rebecca, I know I was wrong… but how could you move on so quickly? Are you really his Luna now, or is this just a show?”
I lifted my hand, intertwined with Evan’s, and flashed my wedding ring.
“Let me introduce you. This is my fated mate, and my second mate. I assume you were too busy with your wedding to attend ours.”
The wedding ring in my hand caught Jonah’s eye, making it hard for him to look at it.
And the mark on my neck was impossible for him to miss as well.
But in the next moment, his gaze landed on the ugly, red scar from the knife wound.
“Rebecca, that scar…I’m sorry. I never expected that one blow would hurt you this badly. It was my fault…”
“Rebecca, I’ve severed the mate bond with Elara. She’s no longer a part of my life. She tricked me, and I made unforgivable mistakes. I don’t expect you to forgive me, but could you give me a chance to spend the rest of my life making it up to you?”
I’d expected rage–accusations about betraying our past.
But instead, he came to beg for my forgiveness, which left me completely stunned.
“No amends needed. Just stay out of my life.”
I pulled Evan along and turned to leave, but Jonah hurriedly stepped forward to stop me.
“You’re throwing yourself at another man just to spite me? That’s reckless! I know you still love me–that’s why you hate me so much. But I can fix this. I’ll make you my Luna! You love handmade wedding dresses, don’t you? I’ll hire a designer and pay a premium to create a custom one for you. No one else will ever touch your things–not even me…”
I stared at the scruffy man in front of me, feeling at a loss for words.
“Whatever you do is none of my business. My mate will do whatever it takes to give me what I want. I don’t need your help. And as for used goods? Keep your distance.”
When Jonah heard me call Evan my mate, his eyes turned bloodshot with rage, his face twisted in a snarl.
“Rebecca! How could you be so heartless? After six years of our relationship, you walk away without a word. How could you do this to me, after everything I gave you for those six years?”
I almost laughed at what he said.
Jonah saw me laugh and thought I was moved.
Without saying anything, he rushed forward, trying to inspect my hand. I raised my hand to slap him–but Evan caught my wrist.

“Let me handle this, sweetheart,” he murmured. “No need to dirty your hands.”
Then he backhanded Jonah–twice.
The familiarity of those words made Jonah freeze mid–stagger.
His clenched fists fell limp at his sides.
