Zander’s usual reserved nature had completely shifted. His smile now was as easy as it had been tense when they first met.
Jaycie couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow and glance back at him. “Why do you always agree with me?”
He suddenly stopped, his gaze serious. The look in his eyes made her feel all fuzzy inside, and her heart skipped a beat. Before she could say anything, his voice broke the silence.
“Because I love you, Jaycie.”

“I know. You’ve told me before that you’re not ready for a new relationship. So… when you are, can I be the first?”
His eyes shone like the stars, and as she stared into them, the words of rejection she had planned to say vanished.
She smiled softly. “Since you asked so sincerely, I’ll reluctantly agree.”
He grinned, ignoring her “reluctance“, and pulled her into a tight embrace, his heart swelling with a quiet joy.
