to jail–something many people thought they would never witness in their lifetime.
After hearing the final verdict, Jaycie stopped following the case. What she hadn’t expected, however, was for Cole to come
knocking again.
At the time, she was sitting with Zander, discussing where to eat after work when her office phone rang.
“Ms. Stanton, Mr. Benson is on the line. He says he wants to see you.”
Jaycie paused for a moment before looking at Zander. Just a month had passed, and yet Zander had already managed to reduce
Benson Corp to a mere shadow of its former self. After a brief hesitation, she agreed to meet with him.
She was curious–what could Cole possibly want from her now, especially after all the bridges had been burnt?
She had considered that he might be suffering, but when she actually saw him, she couldn’t help but freeze for a moment.

It had only been a few months, but the man standing before her in the office–gaunt, weary, and looking at least ten years older -was almost unrecognizable. The Cole she knew just a while ago had been full of energy and confidence.
Her surprise lasted only a second, though. She quickly regained her composure, putting up the same cold, distant demeanor she had perfected.
Cole, sitting across from her, seemed caught off guard by Zander’s presence. He hadn’t expected him to be here, and for a brief moment, his breath caught in his chest. But deep down, he knew that he had no right to question her.
With a face full of sorrow, he pleaded for whatever pity she might still have for him. “Jaycie, I know I hurt you in the past, but I never lied to you. I’ve always loved only you. Please, for the sake of what we had, spare Benson Corp.”
His posture was humble, so much so that it seemed a far cry from the proud and controlling person he used to be, the one who always tried to dominate their relationship.
Jaycie, however, simply spread her hands and shook her head, then pointed toward Zander sitting next to her.
