had loved him so deeply; how could she just walk away like this?
Cole refused to accept what he was seeing. His mind raced with the need to confront her, to demand an explanation. He didn’t
even realize what he was doing until he found himself back in the living room, his phone pressed to his ear, the dial tone ringing
endlessly.
After what felt like an eternity, the call finally connected.
It was late, and Jaycie sounded groggy, as if she’d been woken from sleep. She hadn’t checked the caller ID before answering, her
voice still heavy with drowsiness. “Hello… who is this?”
“Jaycie, it’s me,” Cole said, his voice strained. He was afraid she might hang up if she thought it was a spam call. “Where are you?
I need to see you. And where are our photos?”
The moment he spoke, Jaycie’s drowsiness vanished. She pulled the phone away from her ear and glanced at the screen. When she
saw Cole’s name, she let out a deep sigh.
She had messed up. She had forgotten to block his number.
