I scoffed and pulled the curtains shut.
What bad luck.
“Natalie, the president’s office just called. They want you upstairs.”
The intern transferred the call to me.
I picked up the receiver, and Ryan’s cold voice came through.
“Come up.”
The moment I stepped into the office, Ryan grabbed me and pinned me against the wall, rubbing his face against my neck.
“Babe, he’s so annoying.”
I ruffled Ryan’s hair. “Jealous?”
He huffed and leaned in to nip me lightly. “I’ve been so busy lately. I miss you.”
I held him off, gasping between his deepening kisses. “Wait until we’re home.”
As soon as Ryan and I got out of the car and were walking toward the restaurant, a figure suddenly appeared beside us. Ryan immediately stepped in front of me, shielding me.
Quentin stood there, disheveled. His hair was messy, and his eyes were bloodshot. He was no longer the charming, confident man he once was. Now, he looked at me with a twisted expression.
“Natalie, I finally meet you again.”
Ryan blocked me and took a step forward. “Quentin, do you have business with my wife?”
Quentin seemed to notice him for the first time. He muttered, “Wife? Natalie is my fiancée! We had a wedding! She’s my fiancée!
Who the hell are you?!”
As he spoke, he clenched his fist and swung it toward Ryan.

Instinctively, I stepped in front of Ryan. “Quentin! Are you insane?!”
Quentin stared at me in disbelief. “You’re protecting him?! Natalie! How could you stand in front of another man?!”
Ryan took my hand and gently pulled me behind him again, shielding me protectively. He let out a mocking laugh as he looked at
Quentin.
“Who are you putting on this deep–love act for? Weren’t you the one who cheated first? Weren’t you the one who pushed her to
me at the wedding? I should be thanking you for giving me such a beautiful wife.”
Quentin’s fists tightened, veins bulging on his neck, his furious glare locked onto Ryan.
The tension was razor–sharp as if they would start fighting at any moment.
I stepped forward.
“Quentin, I’ve made it clear to you long ago–we are over. The moment you showed up at our wedding with Olivia, the moment
Ryan appeared, I had already decided to break up with you.
“I am not your possession. I am not some pet you can throw away and expect to come running back. I don’t love you anymore.
You are my past. I love my husband now, so please, don’t ever disturb me again.”
It was as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over Quentin. His eyes filled with hurt.
I took Ryan’s hand, ready to leave.
Unfortunately, Quentin refused to give up, stretching out his arm to block us. A cruel smirk appeared on his lips as he looked at
me and said, “Ryan, you once said you hated gold–diggers the most. You told everyone before–Natalie is just a vain woman who
loves money.”
