hesitation. At worst, I’d just have to pay him back with my own body. Resolutely, I leaned in and kissed his cheek.
Ryan was first stunned, then a storm brewed in his eyes. His expression unreadable, he asked,
“Why did you kiss me?”
I bit my lip and answered softly, “To thank you.”
“Heh.” He let out a cold laugh before cupping my face in one hand and pressing a deep, overwhelming kiss onto me. “Natalie,
you’re really asking for trouble.”
After what felt like forever, he pulled me–flushed and breathless–into a store. Only then did I realize it wasn’t what I had
imagined.
“Take off that hideous wedding dress.”
His blatant disdain made me want to disappear into the floor.
“Get her a business suit immediately. Also, pick out a few elegant outfits and two formal gowns for her.”
I tugged on Ryan’s sleeve. “Why are you buying me clothes?”
He turned around, his expression still carrying a hint of satisfaction. With a teasing smirk, he said, “You’re accompanying me on
a business trip. This is the thank–you gift I wanted.”
My face turned red as I realized my misunderstanding. Embarrassed, I lowered my head and muttered, “I have my own clothes. I
don’t need you to buy any.”
Ryan’s face instantly darkened, his cold gaze locking onto me.
I felt uneasy, unsure of how I had triggered his temper again. Back when I worked for him, he would often lose his temper
inexplicably.
“You don’t want my gifts? Is it because you’re still hung up on Quentin? Do you want to go back to his place and reminisce about

I sighed inwardly and explained helplessly, “I just need to pack up my things. I need to throw away what’s unnecessary and take
back what’s mine–like the award you personally made for me when I was at the company.”
His expression softened. He pinched my cheek and said in a low voice, “Always acting spoiled.”
I was dumbfounded. When did I act spoiled?
He glanced at his watch and said, “There’s no time today. There are only three hours left before my company signs the strategic agreement with Muse Group. I’ve booked your flight. Once work is done, I’ll go with you to pack your things.”
I was shocked. “It’s such an important day, and you still came to my wedding?”
He shot me a look and scoffed. “It was worth it. I got you back into the company and gained a wife.”
I pursed my lips, realizing I might have sold myself short–it was a two–for–one deal.
