She smiled and held her phone up in front of me, showing me a video.
On the screen, a girl was pinned to the ground by several men
She was barely clothed and crying out in despair. The alley was familiar, and so were the screams.
I broke down, covering my ears, refusing to listen.
The video was only a few minutes long, but it felt like an eternity.
Amy watched my reaction with satisfaction, her smile almost cruel.
“Lindsey, you’re so filthy.”
“Tell me, if this video got out, what would people think of you?”
I struggled to steady my breathing, forcing myself to stay calm. I asked, “Was this your doing?”
I should’ve known. When people called me despicable and shameless for clinging to Carter, I should have realized it was
connected to Amy.
Her eyes lit up with a strange excitement, like a child caught in the act of doing something naughty.
“So, you’re not that dumb after all, huh? Haha.”
“I just wanted to teach you a little lesson, but who knew you’d crumble so easily?”
She slowly bent down, her voice dropping to a whisper.
“Let me tell you another secret.”
“Do you know how Carter’s father died?”
My eyes widened in shock.
wanted him to step in and call off youding white
She continued, “I but he refused. So, I accidentally killed him. Even that suicide note was forged by me.”
“You’re all such fools, not even able to recognize his handwriting.”
She laughed and laughed until tears streamed down her face.
“Uncle Hall clearly liked me. Carter clearly loves me. Lindsey, this is all your fault. You deserve this!”
I didn’t tell Carter any of this.
Even if I had, he wouldn’t have believed me.
I no longer had any hope of earning his trust.
After much insistence on my part, he finally agreed to the divorce.
But only after his father’s memorial service for what would have been his fiftieth birthday.
Lagreed
On the day of the memorial, I wore the long black dress he had specifically chosen for me.
