Eleanor and I had made an appointment at 3 p.m. at a cafe the next day. I was a few minutes late due to the traffic jam.
When I reached, Eleanor was already there.
She sat on the chair and worked while drinking coffee.
I was a little envious. I wanted to be a career woman too, but when I got pregnant two years ago, Brian advised me to quit my job
and stay at home to rest. Even after we lost our child, he rejected my request to go out and work again. He told me to stay at home
and take care of his father.
Eleanor was very concentrated on her work and did not look up when I walked toward her.
“What are you looking at?”
“Ah, you’re here. I’m watching a very popular video. It’s of a man hugging and grieving his dead wife that had just lost her son.
That sounded a little familiar.
“Are you referring to the woman who jumped off the hospital building?”
“Yes, that’s the one!”
I smiled bitterly.
“That man is my husband, Brian.”
Eleanor was stunned. Then, it seemed like something clicked in her brain. She shook her head and smiled.
“So it’s true? I saw someone commenting that they aren’t a married couple. They claimed that the man had a wife and even disregarded his dying father for this other woman. I thought it sounded a bit familiar, but I didn’t expect it to be your husband!”
“My request is very simple. I want to divorce him with no complications.”
I only wanted to get a divorce. I did not want to anger him, and I did not want a huge fight over a little money.
