Wales was bedridden for a week before he finally regained consciousness. My funeral was over by then, and what awaited him was only a cold and lifeless tombstone.
Since the wedding had been streamed live, everyone in the world knew about him being unfaithful.
The incident had greatly impacted Price Corporation’s reputation. Within a short span of time, Price Corporation’s stock market value fell steeply. The board of directors came to a unanimous decision to strip Wales of his position as CEO.
Wales had only nodded emotionlessly when his secretary delivered the news to him. He had probably already expected such an
outcome.
Later, he sat before my tombstone and started singing my favorite song. He only left after evening had fallen. He sat in the spot
where I used to sit while I read or drank coffee and fell into a daze.
Although I had vandalized our wedding photo, Wales had kept it hung up in his room. He had drawn an image of me in the empty spot that was left behind, as if it would be enough to pretend that I was still by his side.
He had also discovered a diary of mine that I had left in one of the bedside tables. I had started writing in it since the day Wales brought me home, jotting down my confessions to him daily.
“Today, Wales bought a slice of cake for me. It was the most delicious cake I had ever eaten.”
“Today, Wales wore the blue tie I bought for him. I swear, blue ties were made for him. He’s the most handsome man in the world
when he’s wearing one.”
My love was hidden in every little daily occurrence. But ever since I got into the car accident, I stopped writing in my diary.
Wales only realized then how cruel he had treated me. His friends couldn’t bear to see him down in the dumps, so they encouraged him to seek out Anna, hoping that Anna would be able to lift his spirits.
When Wales looked for Anna once more, Anna still smiled at him, although the curve of her smile was a little forced.
