Chapter 37
Gadreel frowned at the doctor’s words. Taking a step forward, he seemned to totally forget about the conversation he was having with Ivory
“What do you mean by that? Earlier, you said she was stable, so why is she suddenly in danger?” He questioned.
“Ms. Remington was indeed stable, but her heat suffered a sudden attack and for someone who suffers from a heart condition like Coronary Artery Disease, this could be fatal. That’s why I urge, the sooner we operate on her, the better.”
Coronary Artery Disease? Ivory couldn’t help but frown at the doctor’s diagnosis.
Evangeline doesn’t suffer from CAD, as most call it, but rather…
“What she suffers from is Ischemic Heart Disease, IHD. It’s easily mistaken for CAD, but unlike CAD, it’s not caused by the build–up of plaque, but a sudden shortage of blood flow, due to an occluded vessel or narrowing.” Her words gained the attention of both men.
“The best course of action in this case would be to-” Before she could finish her diagnosis, Ivory realized that the two men were staring at her like she had grown an extra head.
Ah, she has allowed herself slip.
“How do you know this?” Gadreel asked, narrowing his eyes suspiciously at her as he awaited her answer.
it
But when it seemed like he wasn’t going to get any, his curiosity only intensified.
He wanted to know, no, he needed to know how Ivory knew so much about Medicine.
Even back at the family house, he had watched her check up on his grandmother and even prescribed some pills for her, pills which he had later checked and discovered they were the right ones.
“Ivory,” His tone was firm, demanding and it was clear he wasn’t going to allow her slip past him, not this time. “Explain yourself.”
Ah, that she didn’t want to do, Ivory thought as she looked away and sighed. She didn’t want to be put in the ‘explain yourself‘ position, especially by her ex husband.
“Is that really what you should be doing right now? Standing here and listening to my explanation when your girlfriend’s life is in danger?” She asked, avoiding his question and turning to the doctor.
“You said she was in a dire condition, shouldn’t you guys hurry?
Gadreel didn’t like her avoidance, neither was he satisfied with the answer, but he knew he didn’t have time for that.
“Doctor,” He turned to the medical professional. Go ahead, save her.”
“Of course. Please come with me, Mr. Odegaar, you need to sign a few documents.”
Gadreel nodded and followed the doctor. Ivory sighed in relief as they began walking away and turned to continue her earlier journey.
Her sigh of relief however, did not go unnoticed By Gadreel, neither did her sudden knowledge in medicine.
As he walked along with the doctor, he frowned at the sudden air of mystery that seemed to surround Ivory.
Pulling out his phone, he called Ezekiel.
“Sir?!”
“Ezekiel, I have a task for you,”
“What is it, Sir?”
“I want you to dig up information about Ivory, and this time, go as far as you need.”
“Of course, Sir. Leave it to me.”
Satisfied with his response, Gadreel ended the call and continued with the doctor, determined to put Ivory’s matter at the back of his mind for now and focus more on Evangeline.
It was clear she needed him more. His mind, soul and body knew and acknowledged this, yet, there was a lingering curiosity he felt towards Ivory.
One that made him certain that she was hiding something from him and one way or another, he was going to find out what.
Ivory had just finished settling the bills when a familiar figure walked in.
“Kael?” She called out and smiled softly. “What are you doing here?”
The male in question, upon hearing her voice, looked up and his expression matched hers.
“V,” He approached her, and as always, pulled her into a brief hug. However, when they separated and his eyes scanned her figure, worry took over his once light expression. “You-”
“It’s not my blood.” She was quick to interrupt. “It’s…it’s a friend. I’m fine. But that aside, what are you doing here?” She quickly changed the topic.
Although Kael took note of this, he decided to let it slide. Ivory has always been that type of person. So, as long as she isn’t hurt, he could allow it slide.
“Master sent me here.” He informed and Ivory’s brows arched in confusion. “The Dean
Dume 7
contacted him, begged him to carry out a surgery under such short notice. But master being who he is, sent me in his stead.”
Sighing, Kael shook his head. “I really wish that old man could just do things himself.”
Ivory swatted his arm. “If he does, then what’s the point of taking us in as his apprentice. Stop talking nonsense.”
Even though Kael had things to say, he knew better than to talk against the youngest in their
group.
Opting to stay quiet, he grumbled words underneath his breath, While Ivory frowned at the
situation.
Why was Kael sent here? He’s forte wasn’t surgery, but rather pharmaceutical.
“You know I can read your expression clearly. I may not be well experienced in surgery, that doesn’t mean I’ll fuck things up. But if you’re so worried,” He smirked. “Why don’t you go in my stead, handle the surgery I mean?”
but
Her, handle the surgery?
Ivory frowned, but she wasn’t totally against the idea. It was just the thought of getting back into the field with something so big that didn’t seat right with her.
What if she messed things up? Nah, that wasn’t possible. She knew there was no way she could mess things up.
She was just that good..
But the same couldn’t be said for Kael.
With that thought in mind, she studied him for a few seconds before sighing. “Alright, I’ll
handle it for you.”
Kael seemed surprised, pleasantly so, by her decision.
Grinning, he petted her on the shoulder. “I owe you one. Let’s have a meal with Arian sometime, okay?”
Ivory nodded. “What’s the ER?”
“Let’s go,” He began with a smile. “I’ll lead the way.
Soon, 1
arrived at the ER. As they got dressed and
dy for the quan couldn’t help
but feel a bit nostalgic.
The good old times, she has missed them.
“You ready?” Kael, who had chosen to assist her despite his lack of knowledge in this Field,
asked.
Ivory simply nodded her head, then they proceeded into the room. However, the moment they arrived at the operation table, Ivory froze.
On the table, her patient, was none other than Evangeline.
Ah, shit.
“y?” Kael called out, noticing her reluctance. “You okay?”
Ivory looked from Evangeline’s unconscious form, then back at Kael, then finally, she met the gaze of the doctor who had been observing her, silently.
“This…” She muttered.
“Yes?” The doctor answered. It was clear that he was awaiting her answer.
An answer that she was sure no one in the room would like.
“I refuse to do this surgery cause this girl here does not deserve my help!” She wanted to say, but she knew she couldn’t.
Her master’s reputation was on the line here, as well as her reputation and ethics as a doctor. The repercussions on those words, if she were to let them out, was sure to be a pain.
So, for the sake of her career, she forced herself to look away from the girl and took a deep breath.
“It’s nothing” She said, then drew in one final breath, getting into the zone and preparing herself.
“Let’s get this done,”
