Chapter 33
“Twerp?!” Emma glared at Cameron, at that very moment, she was ready to jump at him and butt heads like they usually did back as kids.
Much to her dismay, Cameron completely ignored her and solely focused on the more important person in front of him, Ivory.
She too, seemed to ignore Emma angry crying and for a split second, all she did was stare at Cameron, still a bit frazzled from the sudden loss of distance between their faces.
Her trance like state was broken when Cameron smirked, pleased that his presence was having an effect on her.
“So, which is it?” He asked.
Ivory adjusted, putting distance between them once again, and turned away.
“Are you normally annoying, or is this an exception because you’re what…” She paused and him, making sure that he could tell she had called bull on his earlier words. “Pursing me? Which is it?”
Cameron chuckled, amused. It wasn’t everyday he met a lady who wasn’t impressed by his
charm and looks.
“Perhaps both,” he answered, and although Ivory did not face him, she could tell he was
smirking.
She couldn’t resist the urge and rolled her eyes, sighing afterwards. “Won’t you just leave already. I’m sure they’re other lady that would appreciate your company.”
“And you’re not?” He asked and Ivory shook her head. From behind her, Emma snorted and Cameron glanced her way briefly. “Why? Is it because of my lovely sister over there? Did she paint me the devil?”
Ivory didn’t respond immediately. Taking a sip from her drink, she pondered how to answer Cameron, or better yet, the most effective method to dispatch him.
She had only met him twice and honestly, she didn’t want to go on about what led to her not wanting to deal with love or relationships, as things stood, and, It was clear the relationship between these siblings wasn’t the loveliest, so saying something reckless, could potentially put Emma at odds with him.
“Emma didn’t say anything, in fact she has nothing to do with this,” She began, turning to face him. “As a matter of fact, my rejection has everything to do with that over the roof confidence of yours and nothing else.”
Ivory smiled, a sweet one. “So, if you’re confident enough, I’m sure there must be someone else who’d love to be pursued by you.
Cameron’s lips parted, speechless. “What?”
“Oh, you want me to put it in more simpler terms A guy like you who thinks he can woo a woman with his money, looks and charms, well, I’m sorry to break it to you, that type of guy Isn’t my type. So, run along, before your ego takes a hit.
After saying that, Ivory turned away and took a sip of her drink, leaving a stunned Cameron, who’s eyes were narrowed with disbelief, staring at her.
This….this was a first!
Never, in all his years, had he been rejected like this, especially not by a woman, and most especially not by a woman he found interesting.
Cameron couldn’t believe it, the shock was written all over his face, and Emma who witnessed this, smirked.
“Serves you right.” She muttered and turned back to her own drink, enjoying the pleasant taste of her half brother’s defeat.
“Are you done here, Em?” Ivory suddenly asked. ‘How about we try some place else? This
would be on me.”
one
“You don’t have to ask me twice.” Jumping off the chair, Emma linked arms with her friend and turned around. “See you later, Camy.” She taunted with a smirk. “And good luck finding another girl to try your horrible flirting skills on.”
As the two friends walked away, Cameron blinked back the shock on his face.
“They’re leaving, but wait.‘ He began chasing after them.
“Ivy! Ivy wait!” He called out, but Ivory was unbothered. She didn’t even bother slowing her steps.
Thankfully, for Cameron that is, he got to them just before they got to the exit and quickly held Ivory wrist.
“Please wait,”
“You’ve gotta be kidding me,” Emma huffed. “Get your hands off her. Let go this very
moment.”
She began moving towards Cameron and Ivory parted her lips to tell Cameron to release her, but before either of them could accomplish their mission, a voice rang out.
“What’s going on here?”
The three of them turned and upon seeing the figure, a frown appeared on Ivory’s forehead.
Just by the entrance, flagged by his usual cronies–Evangeline and Asher- was Gadreel.
He looked at the scene before him like someone had just poured coffee on his favorite pair of
suit.
“What’s going on here?” He repeated and Cameron was the first to react.
He released Ivory’s wrist and flashed Gadreel a smile.
“Didn’t expect to see you here, Reel.”
Reel? Ivory’s brows furrowed. That was a nickname that only those close to Gadreel could use.
Did that mean Cameron was-
“Oh my God, Cam!” Evangeline’s shrill voice cut through Ivory’s thoughts and she rushed towards Cameron, hands opened for a hug. “You’re back in Paris? I’ve missed you so much!”
She attempted to hug him, but Cameron stepped away, avoiding the embrace.
“Sorry,” He said: “But no.
דו
Everyone, or at least, Evangeline alone, was stunned by the playout. Asher stood in the back, assessing the situation with a frown, while Gadreel stared at Ivory, allowing himself the privilege to drink in the outfit she was adorning.
It was different from the usual things she wore, and it suited her figure, accentuating her
Curves.
His eyes trailed down, taking in her shapely legs and he couldn’t stop himself from remembering how they had felt that night in the shower.
But, he couldn’t let his lustful thoughts get the best of him, not in front of her, so he snapped out of it just as Asher stepped forward.
“Cam,” He began. “What’s going on here? Don’t tell me…are you actually planning on
pursuing Gadreel’s ex wife?”
There was a moment of silence between all six of them, one where everyone present tried to process the information.
Cameron, however, was the first to react.
He chuckled and shook his head.
“Ex wife? She?” He looked back at Ivory then, Gadreel, expecting to see some sort of reaction.
When he got no reaction, he blinked in confusion.
“Your ex wife?” The question was directed at Gadreel. Then at Ivory. “You’re his ex wife?”
Cameron was really confused. He asked. “She’s the uneducated hick, you lot told me about?”
Ivory frowned the moment she heard how Gadreel’s group called her, but she later paid no
mind to it.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Cameron held his hand up, a sinile playing on his lips. “Gadreel was married to Ivy, over here?” He asked Asher.
“Ivory,” Asher corrected, staring pointedly at her. “And yes.”
Once again, silence descended over the small group and once again, it was broken by Cameron who chuckled.
“And here I was thinking your wife was in the loss, Reel,” He surveyed Ivory from head to toe, the type of look–over that made Gadreel want to punch him. “But from the looks of it, you’re in the loss, Reel, big time.
“Stop speaking nonsense, Cameron.” Asher interjected. “And what happened to the question I
asked.”
“Ah, the question. Well to answer it, Yes. If she’s Gadreel’s ex wife, I don’t have any problems with that and will in fact,” He looked Ivory right in the eyes and flashed one of his usual charming smile. “Pursue her.”
As quickly as that smile had come, it went and was replaced by something more friendly and teasing as he turned to face Gadreel.
“You don’t mind that right, Reel?”
Gadreel body stiffened. His jaws tightened and his eyes narrowed in annoyance.
But before he could even think of a response, Ivory spoke up.
“All this is giving me a headache,” She turned and grabbed Emma’s hand. “Let’s go Emma, Before she leaves, she turns to Cameron. “And you, keep your pursuit to yourself.”
And with that, she walked out, not even bothering to give Gadreel a single glance.
“Ivy, wait.” Cameron called after her and without hesitation, followed.
Gadreel suddenly wanted to follow along, but at that very moment, Evangeline stopped him.
And with a frown on her face, she warned.
“Don’t you dare, follow her.”
“An uneducated hick? The nerves of those lot.” Emma, ever the best friend, boiled with anger
as she sat in the passenger seat, waiting for Ivory to start up the car.
She turned the key once but the engine didn’t start. She did it a second time, and the engine didn’t start. She attempted a fourth time and the engine still didn’t start, then she frowned.
“Is something wrong?” Emma asked.
Craptes
“I think it’s the cighe, the damn thing won’t start.” Sighing, she unbuckled her belt, popped the hood and stepped out.
“Do you know how to fix it?”
“A bit,” She answered.
Stepping around, she pulled the hood open and took a look at the engine, checking the oil, fuel
and water level, before checking the ignition cables, then the spark plug.
Everything seemed okay, so what could be the problem.
“Could you try again, Em.”
Emma nodded and started the car. It sputtered a few times before dying.
Ivory sighed and shook her head.
“This can’t be good. I’ve got to get the car towed.”
Just as the words left her lips, the sound of footstep approaching caught her attention.
“Your car’s having problems?” Cameron’s voice was the first one she heard and the very next thing she saw, was his figure as he walked up to her.
Emma was quick to get out of the car and places herself between the two.
“Even if it is, I don’t think that’s any of your business, so run along.”
Cameron frowned, but seconds later, a smile bloomed across his face and in the most
inoffensive voice, he asked.
“Why do you always have to be such a twat, Em?
Emma flinched at the words, but her glare hardened.
“Well get used to it. As long as I’m here, you won’t be getting close to Ivy and-” The sound of her phone ringing cut her off.
Although hesitant, she fished it out and frowned when she saw it was her mother calling.
“Go on,” Cameron said after sighting the ID. “Answer it.”
Hesitating for a few seconds, Emma later answers the phone..
“Ma.” She paused, then frowned. “Right now? But…fine.” After that, she ends the call and
turns to Ivory with a frown.
“I have to go, Ivy, mom says there’s something important she needs to talk to me about.”
Ivory nodded. “Sure. I’ll probably just order a ride home. You go on.”
Emma flashed her a smile of gratitude before turning to Cameron and frowning.
“Don’t get your hopes high, Cameron,” She began. “If you think for one second, your
advances are going to work because I’m gone,” Chuckling, she shook her head with a knowing.
look. “Then you’re going to be in for a ride of surprise.”
