even knew you had a wife? Who knew my daughter existed?” Her voice trembled with anger. “You never deserved her.”
Her words shattered the last of his composure. Allen pressed his forehead against the cold wall, his body trembling uncontrollably. His vision blurred as tears poured freely down his face.
He fumbled for his phone, desperate to send me a message. But when he opened his contacts, my chat log was gone.
His breath caught in his throat as he remembered. He had blocked me.
Then he unblocked my number. Unread messages flooded his screen, each one like a dagger to the heart. He bent over, gagging on
the ache that filled his chest, but nothing came out.
[Allen, come home early tonight. I made sweet and sour ribs for you. I used zero–calorie sugar, so you won’t gain weight.]
[Does the suit I bought you fit? I ordered another as a wedding anniversary gift.]
[When will you come home? I want to go to the hospital. I haven’t been feeling well lately…]
He had never once replied to my messages.
