I watched him lose control in the hospital corridor, his face pale and twisted with rage.
Tears welled up in my eyes and spilled over, but there was nothing I could do. Nothing he could hear.
Time slipped by, heavy and cruel. Eventually, his strength gave out. His back slid down the wall, and he crumpled into a corner,
breathless and hollow.
His assistant arrived, startled by the sight of him so broken. He hurried over, trying to lift Allen to his feet.
“We found the doctor who performed Madam’s surgery,” the assistant said carefully. “But…”
Allen lit a cigarette with shaking fingers. “But what?”
“It’s better if you ask him yourself.”

His phone had been buzzing on the floor for a while. Message after message from Sadie. He didn’t open a single one.
In his office, the doctor stood by the door, wiping sweat from his forehead as Allen fixed him with a cold, unwavering gaze.
“I didn’t know it was your wife,” the doctor began, his voice uneasy. “She came to the hospital alone, saying she wanted an
abortion and planned to divorce her husband. I thought it was a routine procedure, so I didn’t ask many questions.”
Allen’s expression darkened. He took a slow drag from his cigarette, but the tremor in his hands didn’t stop.
“Before the surgery, her mood was unstable,” the doctor continued, testing each word. “She insisted on making a phone call. Our
staff tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t listen. I don’t know who she spoke to, but after the call, she changed. She said she had to go through with the abortion no matter what.”
Allen’s face remained cold, but his jaw clenched tightly.
“I warned her that the anesthesia was wearing off,” the doctor said, his tone hesitant. “I even suggested she wait a couple of
days, but she refused. I’m just a doctor. I couldn’t force her to leave.”
He lowered his gaze before delivering the final blow. “During the operation, I discovered she had advanced cancer. It had already spread through her body. We tried everything, but she didn’t make it.”
A long silence filled the room.

Allen’s cigarette burned down to his fingers. He didn’t seem to notice.
“She wanted an abortion? And a divorce?” His voice was low, edged with something dangerous.
The doctor nodded quickly, too quickly.
In a flash, Allen seized a glass from the desk and hurled it at the doctor.

“Bullshit!” His voice cracked with raw fury. “Mia wanted a child for five years. Why would she suddenly want an abortion? You said she came alone. Do you have proof?”
His eyes burned with rage. “This hospital belongs to me. If you dare lie, you’ll never work in this field again.”
The assistant scrambled to hand him a medical consent form. On it was a smudged red fingerprint–mine.
I had been forced. Sadie had planned everything.
Allen stared at the paper, his breath unsteady.
He took two steps forward and grabbed the doctor by the collar. “Since she was here for an abortion,” he growled, “why would you cut open her chest?”
His grip tightened. “She died under your care, and you did nothing? Is this how the hospital operates?”
The doctor froze, panic flashing in his eyes.
Just then, the office door swung open.
Sadie sat in a wheelchair, her face pale but composed.

Allen didn’t even glance at her. His voice dropped to a frigid monotone. “Why are you here?”
She smiled softly, placing her hand on his arm as if nothing had happened.
“Allen, I heard everything about Mia.” Her voice was gentle, almost soothing. “She must have decided to end things. If she were alive, she wouldn’t want to see you like this.”
She handed him a folder. “These are the medical records. If you’re still angry, take it out on me. The doctors have done their best.
It wasn’t their fault.”
As Allen lowered his head in thought, Sadie cast a swift glance toward the doctor.
