Chapter

The incision stretched from the center of my chest, leaving a long, jagged wound. Beneath the torn flesh, glimpses of my organs

and bones lay exposed

Allen wiped the blood from my body, his hands trembling with restrained fury. Then, as if something snapped inside him, he

stormed out of the room

He grabbed anyone in sight, his voice sharp and cold. “What happened to Mia’s body? Is this how the hospital handles patients?”

His questions came rapidly and relentlessly. Was it you? Did you touch her?”

I watched him lose control in the hospital corridor, his face pale and twisted with rage

Tears welled up in my eyes and spilled over, but there was nothing I could do. Nothing he could hear

Time slipped by, heavy and cruel. Eventually, his strength gave out. His back slid down the wall, and he crumpled into a corner

breathless and hollow

His assistant arrived, startled by the sight of him so broken. He hurried over, trying to lift Allen to his feet

We found the doctor who performed Madam’s surgery, the assistant said carefully. But…”

Allen lit a cigarette with shaking fingers. But what?”

It’s better if you ask him yourself.”

His phone had been buzzing on the floor for a while. Message after me
