In the next second, I threw out some photos of the remains of a fetus. These were photos taken after they induced labor at the hospital.
“You should know that after you carried Wendy away, a strong aftershock occurred. I wasn’t rescued in time, and a large slab of concrete fell on my abdomen. Even my internal organs suffered crush injuries.”
I ran my slightly disfigured right hand over my now–empty abdomen and sighed.
“The doctor told me they could see the baby’s features already, and it was a boy.”
Steven clutched those horrific photos tightly with trembling hands, and his face turned ashen.
“You must be lying to me! You’re always lying!”
It was clear that he didn’t want to believe it, but he was also barely able to stand up anymore.
He stared at my abdomen, then his gaze moved up to my face.
Suddenly, he noticed the necklace hanging around my neck. His expression changed abruptly, and there was not an ounce of guilt
to be found.
“What is this? I’ve never seen you wear this before. This is a gift from your lover, right? You’re here putting on this show because
you’re anxious to divorce me and want to be with him instead!”
His eyes blazed with anger as he forcefully jerked the necklace off me.
I quickly tried to grab it back from him, but to him, this was proof of my guilty conscience.
The smile on his face grew, and he threw the necklace down on the ground hard.
When the pendant on the necklace shattered, my heart broke into a million pieces along with it.
I didn’t care that my legs were still healing. I lunged to the ground and tried to gather up the ashes that had spilled from the
broken pendant.
When Steven saw what had fallen out of the pendant, he was clearly stunned.
