Chapter 6
His own wife had barely made it out of the hospital alive and had even suffered a miscarriage, but Steven himself was off
frolicking with his lover on his wife’s birthday.
They naturally turned their nose down on him.
Tina’s expression was stony as she struck him across the face. “You scum! Your wife nearly died, and she just had a miscarriage, yet you’re blatantly running around with some other woman! You’ve ruined the Hough family’s reputation in Luxdoun!”
Steven had been slapped very hard, but a smug smile still lingered on his lips.
He looked toward me and threw a stack of documents right at me. His gaze then flicked to the wheelchair I was sitting in and
sneered.
“Wendy’s friend works at Jorlina Hospital. I was wondering how you could have suffered such extreme injuries, so Wendy had her friend check your medical records. You never had a miscarriage, nor did you have any fractures. All you had was slight abrasions and minor scrapes!
“You’re sinking to new lows just to vie for my attention? And now you’ve even roped in my parents and Reuben to trick me too?
“Do you know that because you delayed me from rescuing Wendy promptly, her hand was nearly permanently crippled? You’re a truly vile woman, Yelena!”
The people at the party all knew what I had gone through, so none of them believed his words.
Jim and Tina, both wearing hardened expressions, wanted to drag him away so he couldn’t humiliate them any longer.
He, however, shook their hands off.
His face was dripping with disgust as he sneered. “Mom, Dad! If you hadn’t forced me to marry this bitch, Wendy never would’ve had to suffer at her hands like this!
“You think I’m embarrassing you? Isn’t this lying bitch the one who’s truly bringing shame to our family? She constantly twists all the facts and stirs up trouble! What has she been feeding you that you’re willing to put on this pitiful act with her?”
I slowly wheeled my wheelchair before him. “Steven Hough, are you done? Now it’s my turn to talk,” I said coldly.
He lowered his head to look at me and scoffed. “What? You don’t want me to go on? Are you afraid I’ll expose all the disgusting things you’ve done?”
I took out my medical records as well as the signed divorce papers and handed them to him.
He froze at first, then frowned while flipping through them.
“You’re done with this woe–is–me act and are now pulling the divorce card instead?” He scoffed.
“You’re a doctor yourself, so it’s easy enough for you to fake these medical records. Don’t think you can fool me with this!”
