Chapter 5
Leah’s name finally brought Anderson back to his senses.
He forced a semblance of happiness onto his face, tearing his gaze away from the filthy gift box.
He followed Rhys to Leah’s residence, his mind in turmoil.
On the way, Rhys told him to buy a bouquet of roses, eagerly anticipating the delighted smile on Leah’s face.
As they approached the house, a sharp, dangerous scent assaulted their nostrils.
Through the slightly open door, they saw Leah, who claimed to be weak and poisoned by wolfsbane, drinking strong liquor while twirling a forbidden item in her hand–a stalk of wolfsbane. Across from her, her parents looked smug.
Maryanne, who was my stepmother, wore a greedy smile as she counted the treasures Anderson had sent.
“No one in the world is smarter than you,” she said. ”
All you had to do was claim you were poisoned, and Anderson would agree to anything you asked for.
“An Alpha so blind that he didn’t even realize the poisoning was fake… Should I say you’re too brilliant, or he’s just that stupid?”
With Anderson absent, Maryanne didn’t bother to hide her sharp tongue. She patted Leah’s father’s hand and continued with a
sneer.
“I
But I can say for sure that Anderson’s the fool.
“He had a woman like Irene, who loved him for 12 years, yet he chased after my daughter like a dog. Clearly, my daughter is the
more desirable one.”
Leah’s father, Gavin Harrison, chuckled and swirled his wine glass arrogantly.
“Irene has always been unlucky, just like her mother–a pathetic wretch never meant to have happiness.
If Felicia had been a little more obedient and handed over her family’s wealth to us, she wouldn’t have been tormented into
suicide.
And we wouldn’t have had to keep pretending to care, putting on a show for that idiot Rhys.”
Leah clinked her glass against Gavin’s and downed the drink, her face full of impatience.
“Did Irene die on the way here? Why isn’t she here yet? If she dares run, I won’t let her off.
“If I could have children, she never would have had the chance to be marked by an Alpha in the first place.
Once she’s married, just pick a time to send her back to the correctional facility. Make sure she doesn’t come out alive this time.
I’ll just say it’s to correct her behavior and cry a little in front of Anderson. He won’t suspect a thing. By then, we can use that

little bastard she left behind to claim Felicia’s inheritance.”
They plotted openly, laughing wildly together.
Outside, two faces were as cold and lifeless as still water. With a bang, a wolf crashed through the door.
Anderson was breathing heavily, his face flushed with fury as he roared, “You’ve kept me trapped in a web of lies, haven’t you?”
The smile on Rhys’s face vanished.
He threw the bouquet of roses to the ground and said in a voice dripping with hatred, “So, my mother didn’t commit suicide. She was driven to death by you!”
The three inside were so terrified that their minds went blank.
Leah quickly hid the liquor behind her and clutched her face as she cr
