Logan and I separated in order to cover more ground. He went off to speak with some of the other Alphas, and that left me in the
presence of some of the wives.
I tried not to let myself be intimidated. These women were some of the finest of all our packs, but I reminded myself that I was
soon to join their ranks.
Even if it were by contract, I would be a Luna too.
“Hello ladies,” I said to the small group of Lunas. They greeted me in return, and I was grateful for their smiles. They introduced
themselves, but one that I noted was Pam. She was Eric’s wife and Fated Mate.
“Congratulations on your engagement,” said Pam.
“Thank you,” I said.
“It must be so exciting to be planning a wedding with an Alpha like Logan Duke,” giggled one of the other women.
“It is, but the wedding isn’t as important as spending the rest of our lives together,” I replied.
“He must be head over heels with you,” said another one of the women.
“That goes without saying, since Emily here must have used certain charms in order to get Logan to marry her,” said Pam.
“Excuse me?” I raised an eyebrow at her.
“You must have offered something very special. Logan hasn’t ever paid much attention to women before,” said Pam. The other
women giggled.
She was trying to say Logan was more interested in my body than anything else. It was unsavory at best.
At worst, it was an insult to both me and Logan.
“I would never stoop so low.”
“You may say that now, but the deed is already done. He wouldn’t pay any attention to a wolf in dormancy if you hadn’t already
offered something,” Pam said. She smiled, but there was poison in her words.
“Logan and I are in love. There is nothing more to it.” I breathed slowly, thinking my answered through carefully.
These ladies were waiting for me to slip up. They wanted to tear me down in front of all these people, and the one even were
everyone was expecting Logan to be announced as the official Alpha of Titanfang.
Up until now, Logan had been doing all the work as Alpha while his father was in recovery. He was the clear leader of Titanfang.
That was why everyone was looking for the one thing they could use against him. Since Eric and Pam were both against me, I am sure Eric wanted to be Alpha in Logan’s place.

They were trying to use me as Logan’s weakness.
“I’m sure your mother said the same thing to your father, right? She probably taught you how to influence men!” Anger like I had
never experienced before bubbled in my gut.
I could take any amount of mockery against me, but to say such things about my mother was something I would not allow.
My mother was a fantastic woman and the only female Alpha in Blackwood Pack history. She brought the pack to new heights and
helped it grow. Though it was small, her achievements put them on the map.
The pack owed everything to her, and I would not accept people speaking poorly of her.
I grabbed the collar of Pam’s dress, dragging her to a height far below mine. She was nearly on her knees.
“How dare you!” I spat. All Pam could do was stutter in response. She struggled against my grip, but I didn’t let her go.
The other ladies began whispering, but I didn’t pay any attention to them. My focus was entirely on Pam and her slander.
I had completely lost control of my emotions. All I saw was red.
“What are you doing?” said Pam, her voice strained. I tightened my grip on her dress, nearly choking her. The fabric pulled,
stretching the collar.
The whispers around us were growing louder. More people were looking at us.
I didn’t care.
“Apologize! Now!” I demanded. Pam’s eyes widened, and she tried to stand. I didn’t let her.
“You’re making a scene,” said Pam, trying to pry my fingers off her. “How do you think this looks for the pack?”
“If I can’t defend my mother, how can I defend my pack?” A shadow loomed over me, and I saw that Logan had come to join us.
He stood tall, but I didn’t see a speck of anger in his eyes. If anything, he seemed amused.
“That’s right,” Logan said, agreeing with me. Pam dropped her hands from mine, almost going limp.
“Alpha Logan,” she said, nearly breathless. Logan didn’t acknowledge her. His gaze remained fixed on mine.
My anger subsided. Looking at Logan, seeing him agree with me, made everything around me slow. We were the only two that
existed.
Logan was giving me his support. Even if I was really making a scene, like Pam said.
Pam struggling in my grasp reminded me of where I was, pulling me out of my thoughts. I released her collar without a second thought.
“How will you punish her then for such slander?” Logan asked.
