What kind of despair must his Gemma have felt when she lay down in that cryo–casket?
She had always been afraid of the dark and even more afraid of the cold.
When she first came to the Townsend residence, she would crawl into his bed every night while clutching her bunny plushie. In
her sweet, childish voice, she would tell him that his body was like a big furnace and that he was so warm. She would say as long.
as Uncle Murphy was there, she would never feel cold.
Yet in the end, she chose the coldest place in the world–a cryo–casket.
Why?
Was it because he had broken her heart so completely that she could no longer feel the warmth of the world? Was that why she
had chosen to freeze herself and her world in ice?

Murphy did not know the answer. He only knew that, at this moment, he missed her so much that it was driving him mad. He had
to see her, even if it was only the Gemma lying in the cryo–casket.
His team quickly found the contact information for the cryogenic research group and the location of their lab.
Murphy wasted no time rushing over.
Andre from the research group greeted him. “You must be Mr. Murphy Townsend. Before Ms. Kirk underwent cryogenic
preservation, she left me a letter. She instructed me to give it to the person who came looking for her.”
Andre retrieved a brown envelope from his briefcase and handed it to Murphy.
On the envelope, written in Gemma’s delicate handwriting, were the words: [For Murphy Townsend’s eyes only.]
Murphy’s hands began to tremble as he took the envelope, and each breath brought about a sharp pain.
So, Gemma still knew he would come for her? Was all of this her way of punishing him?
That little troublemaker…
“Mr. Townsend, I think you might need some privacy,” Andre said gently. “I’ll wait for you outside. Once you’ve read the letter
and collected yourself, you can come find me in the office next door.”
With that, Andre turned and left, thoughtfully closing the door behind him.
Murphy took a deep breath. Steeling himself, he opened the envelope.
