My heart suddenly leaped.
I hovered at the entrance of the intensive care room, my spirit form trembling uncontrollably.
What was she planning to do?
Was she going to hurt my little Emma again?
No, no!
My child couldn’t suffer any more harm.
Absolutely not!
Looking at the faint smile on Willow’s face, I wished I could tear her apart limb from limb.
The cold calculation in her eyes made my spirit flare with protective rage.
Willow couldn’t see me. She casually made up an excuse to send away the warrior guarding the intensive care room.
“Alpha Kieran asked me to stay with Emma while he speaks with the healers,” she lied smoothly. “You can take a break.”
The warrior hesitated, his hand resting on his weapon.
“My orders were clear-”
“Are you questioning the Alpha’s mate?” she snapped, her eyes flashing dangerously.
Reluctantly, the warrior stepped away, though I noticed he didn’t go far.
Then she quietly pushed open the door.
The soft hiss of the pneumatic hinges seemed deafening in the silent room.
Passing through my ghostly form, Willow slowly walked into the intensive care room.
The sensation was like ice water flowing through my spirit–cold, invasive, wrong.
Approaching my daughter’s bed, Willow curved her lips into a smile, her perfectly manicured claws trailing over my daughter’s forehead, eyes, and mouth.
Each touch made me scream in silent fury.
Finally stopping at her vulnerable throat.
Her claw pressed lightly against Emma’s pulse point, just enough to make a small indentation.
“I wonder, if Ava knew about your pitiful state right now, would she hate me?”

Willow laughed, her eyes gleaming with malice.
The sound echoed in the sterile room, bouncing off the medical equipment.
“Too bad your mother’s body was so weak. I only had the rogues torture her with silver for a few hours, and she couldn’t handle
it.”
She leaned closer to my unconscious daughter, whispering as if sharing a secret.
“What a short–lived creature.”
I felt a shock in my spirit, an icy chill rapidly spreading throughout my being.
The revelation hit me like a physical blow.
What did she mean?
