Griffith caught up with me just as I was about to board the carriage. He was still cradling the infant in his arms. “Ellia, wait.”
“What now?” I asked, already seated. From my vantage point, I looked down at him, making it clear I had no intention of lingering in conversation
“Ella, look at this child. Isn’t he adorable? I know you’ve always wanted a child. Can’t you–can’t you let go of the past and raise binx with me?” His voice was thick with supplication
I was stunned, though not by anything new–just the sheer audacity of him, once again. “Griffith, to me, this child is not some innocent, adorable being. He is proof of your betrayal. There is nothing left between us.”
With that, I flicked the reins, urging the horse forward. The carriage pulled away, dust rising in its wake. Griffith took a few hurried steps after me, but the wailing child in his arms forced him to stop.
For the next year, he came to the Lumina Pack territory now and then, searching for me. But I made sure he never found me.
A year later, I was traveling with Stran to another pack to purchase supplies when I saw Griffith again. Or rather, he had been waiting for me.
