have let
her go just now if he hadn’t.
It was her shield. Her lifeline.
Or so she thought.
He lifted a hand and patted her cheek, his touch unnervingly light. His expression, however, was colder than ever.
“I almost forgot about that. The moment I think about how you killed Violet, I can’t stand the sight of you. And a child from you?
It only makes me sick.”
A chill ran down her spine.
She stumbled back, arms wrapping protectively around her stomach. Fear cracked her voice. “Grayson, what… what are you going
to do?”
He took a step forward, his presence coiling around her like a snake. “I’m sending you to the hospital to get rid of it.”
His words were calm, final. He pulled out his phone and gave the order.
Ruby’s breath caught. Her pupils dilated, her head shaking frantically. Tears spilled down her cheeks, falling to the ground like
shattered beads.
“No! Grayson, this is your child too! How can you be so cruel?”
Desperation clawed at her chest. Just yesterday, he had pressed his ear against her stomach, whispering about how their child’s first word would be “Daddy.” How could he now, without a second thought, decide to erase its existence?
No. She wouldn’t allow it.
“He’s a life,” she choked out. “The proof of our love. Grayson, just think–one day, he’ll call you ‘Daddy.‘ One day, we’ll have a
family.”
She played her last card–his emotions.
But Grayson only looked at her with distant, detached eyes.
“Love?” He let out a quiet scoff. “You and I never had that. It was just a game of flesh and desire. I have only ever loved Violet.”
